The City God Temple or Temple of the City Gods, officially the City Temple of Shanghai, is a folk temple located in the old city of Shanghai. In 1937, the Japanese invaders destroyed Chen Gongxuan and the statue of Chen Huacheng was thrown on the streets. Shanghainese carried the statue into the Chenghuang Temple and worshiped it behind the Great Hall, calling him the Shanghai City God.
