Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands in the United States, is the largest island in the Northern Mariana Islands, and is also the seat of nearly 90% of the population in the state. The island is a coral island, with a Wuhu along the west coast and the mountains stretching north and south. The highest point is Tagpocha Peak (Mount Tagpochau) at an altitude of 479 meters. It is mainly produced with coconut, cassava, potato, breadfruit and bananas. It is a commercial dock and an international airport. Population is about 52,000 (2004). The main towns are Susupé, Karabela and Tanapag. Saipan is a Pacific resort with a wealth of world-class shopping, dining, sightseeing and activities.
