An art museum founded by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg from 1838 to 1843. The early buildings housed paintings by painters from the Middle Ages to the Impressionists throughout Europe. The Museum's Old Master Paintings section houses paintings from the Swabian region from the 14th to 16th centuries. Inside the annexe are modern art exhibition areas, including works from French Fauvists and Cubists to contemporary painters such as Baselitz and Kiefer. There are also 12 works by Picasso, such as "The Bathing Girl".
