Xiaojiuhua Temple is located by the beautiful Pingwang Yingyuedou Lake. It was founded in the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It covers an area of more than 100 acres and has more than 300 palaces and pavilions. It is one of the famous temples in Suzhou. The leader of modern Buddhism, Master Taixu, planted a laurel tree in the temple at the age of 16 and became a monk.
