Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine is located in the northern part of the old town of Takayama and is the patron saint of the northern part of the old town. There is a large torii at the entrance of the road, and there are shops and restaurants on the road. There is also a vermilion torii at the entrance of the shrine, and the color contrast is very bright after snowing. The Takayama Festival Yatai Hall located in the Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine is a display event for 11 shrine floats (yatai) that parade during the autumn Takayama Festival (10/9-10). The Takayama Festival is held twice a year. The shrines, regions, and the floats used for the festivals are different in spring and autumn. The Takayama Festival is held at Hie Shrine in spring, and the grand festival at Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine in autumn.
