Lighthouses on islands are not uncommon, but the Green Island Lighthouse has a special historical significance. There were no lighthouse facilities on Green Island. According to the inscription in front of the lighthouse, in December 1937, the U.S. cruise ship "President Hoover" hit a reef and sank in the sea near Green Island. At that time, the residents of Green Island risked their lives in spite of the high winds and waves, and rescued the cruise ships in distress. Fortunately, there were no casualties. In order to commemorate the humanitarian spirit of the people of Green Island after the cruise crash and to safeguard the safety of navigation at sea, the United States Government built the lighthouse on Green Island in 1938 through a donation from the American Red Cross Society, so it is a historic building.
