The Ship Inn

Had a really enjoyable 4 night stay, quaint nautical themed room (cosy double) bed was very comfy, well stocked hospitality tray and room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was superb, lots of choice, freshly cooked and very tasty. Food a little on the pricey side but of excellent quality. Made to feel at home and everyone was very pleasant and accommodating. Now for the fly in the ointment ... the kitchens extractor fan. It's noisy, very very noisy and can be heard from both the front and back bedrooms. My room was at the front of the building and I could EVERYTHING going on in the kitchen, banging, swearing, men shouting as well as the constant droning of the fan which started at 8:00am and didn't stop until about 9:00pm. The fan acts like an amplifier projecting the sounds from the kitchens into the rooms & is very annoying especially at night. A very big design fault that needs sorting... Sorry...
The Royal Hotel

Very over priced (£185 p/n) considering the appearance of our room. Stains on the carpets, dust on the bed (4 poster - what's the point of a 4 poster bed without a canopy?), and the limescale / grot around the bottom of the shower screen was awful. The toiletries (little bottles of hair/body wash) were beautifully presented in the bathroom.. haha, I mean they were shoved into one of the plastic drinking cups, as were the 2 bars of soap... Mattress - rock hard... no give in it at all (and I like medium to firm). I appreciate it's down to what you like, but I questioned whether we were sleeping on the bed slats rather than a mattress as there was just so little give or bounce in it The rooms are ”individually” decorated apparently, which usually means there's a theme to each one... not here... bland apart from a bright blue canvas on the wall - they need to sack the interior decorator I think.... nothing seems to tie in together and it just doesn't seem welcoming or comfortable. I would've been happier in a Travelodge to be honest Food - evening meal was good, generous qty and tasty. Breakfast was OK too, just lacked some pastries Staff - all friendly enough.... I think overall it just needs some money and time thrown at it
Primrose Cottage

The beautiful old house was in impeccable condition. Our bedroom overlooking the garden and fields was large and airy. The bed was bigger than kingsize and incredibly comfy! Two comfy chairs were also very luxurious to read the newspaper in after a busy day of sightseeing! Fresh and again, large bathroom, too!! The breakfast menu had everything on it from full english to scrambled eggs and salmon! Plus fresh fruit, juices galore. Plus a bowl of fruit filled every day in the bedroom! All beautifully presented by a charming and helpful hostess! Couldnt fault our stay!
