Peaks of Otter Lodge

We have loved the Peaks of Otter Lodge for a quiet getaway for many years. The room was very comfortable with good amenities. We first started coming in the '1980s and '90s when the Lodge offered a winter special featuring breakfast and dinner included in the price of the stay. Back then, the food at the Lodge's restaurant was prepared and cooked on site, and the restaurant was very popular and well-known around the area for its excellent food. In recent years, however, ownership of the restaurant changed and the food has never been the same. The food tastes like it's prepackaged and merely heated up at the restaurant, and the menu prices are very high for the quality of the food being offered. In spite of the sub-par food, the wait staff was excellent, and the dining room offers a beautiful view of the lake and Sharp Top Mountain. Overall, I recommend staying at the lodge if you're wanting a peaceful respite in a beautiful setting. But you may want to make the 15 minute trip to the nearby town of Bedford for your meals.

Nothing special. Kind of 'you get what you pay for.' I paid $80, I got an $80 room. I did hit a nail at some point either in their lot or up the street. The front desk was kind and helped me find a tire fixer place. There was a strong smell of weed when I was there. I hate the smell of that stuff but some people don't mind. Area is a little shady and I strongly advise against walking around alone at night. I think the 2* rating others left is accurate. This place is what it is. I have since found a better plafe to stay when I come through town.

I traveled during the last week of March with my 7 year old twins over their Spring Break. We stayed 3 nights in a KidCabin suite on the lower/water park level (Room 1050). I almost did not go given the recent reviews on this site, but we did and I’m glad we gave the place a chance because it exceeded my expectations in almost every area. Check-in: we arrived early at 1PM and tried to check in. There was a line, so a lot of families had the same idea. Each family got very personalized attention so the line went a little slow, but I appreciated the ability to talk about our preferences when we got to the head of the line. I explained my primary concern that the room be “recently Renovated” and clean. I was asked if we wanted a carpeted or non-carpeted room and after reading so many negative reviews about dirty carpet, I chose non-carpeted. I was told with that change that our room was not ready for us and that we’d receive a text with our room number when it was. No issue – we dropped our luggage back in the car and proceeded to the water park where we spent the next almost 3 hours. We then received our text around 3:45 and went straight to our room (we received wrist bands at check in). Check in gets 4.5 stars. The room: The room was relatively clean. The only issue was some Lucky Charms in one of the bunk beds between the mattress and the box frame and a lot of dirt in the trunk/coffee table which we didn’t use anyway. The condition of the room was very good – it all appeared newish with little or no wear. We were on the pool/arcade level which was convenient going back and forth. Our rear sliding glass door faced the parking lot which was convenient too because we were able to basically park outside our back door. I concur that the primary bed was not very comfortable but for me it didn’t disturb my sleep. Considering this was not the 4 Seasons, the room gets 4 stars. Service: For the most part service was outstanding. With a few exceptions, the staff were friendly, helpful, patient, and responsive. The wait staff in the buffet were awesome (the meat carvers much less so), the front desk was great and the people manning the MagiQuest counter were incredible. Only issues we had was the pool bar shutting down 30 minutes prior to their advertised time. The very disrespectful gent at the counter told me to use the bar upstairs (which requires shoes and shirt for service) because he was closed. I shot a *** note on their Williow app and got an unsatisfactory response that began with “Howl,…”. Room service doesn’t exist but anytime we asked for something using the Willow App (towels, coffee, etc) it was brought right away. For 3 nights we didn’t really miss daily room service. For service I’m giving a 4.5 which could easily have been a 5. Cabana: We used on of these on our 2nd day. Wasn’t worth it for us. One of the water bottles in our fridge was opened already, it was super noisy by the flow rider, the safe locking mechanism wasn’t functional

Excellent spot for a quick get away. The resort offers a variety of sports activities including swimming, game rooms, indoor pools, table games, etc. A variety of restaurants and bars. Excellent opportunities to visit nearby tourists attractions. This time of the year, is perfect for enjoying the beautiful fall leaf display and wonders of nature.

Location reasonable, cleanliness fair, but poorly maintained, and not much in the hospitality department. I was traveling by myself, so I consciously chose a modest hotel in a decent location, but I had experienced the most modest and chose to pay just a little bit more for maybe not rock bottom. It was a disappointment even on that metric. The sink was cracked and poorly repaired. The shower stall looked as if it had been done on someone's first day on the job, and the bed was the most uncomfortable I ever had paid for. The Wifi was very wonky and glitchy. The worst came later, though. When I honestly reported the above in a survey from the hotel, the GM emailed me back, and in all caps basically invited me to never stay in an Econolodge again. No worries. These people should not be in the hospitality business.
