Reminiscent of English pubs and Australian country pubs. Perfect for a solo traveller needing somewhere for a night to restock and recharge.
Staff are can-do and will communicate everything you need to know without being invasive at all.
The pub is busy downstairs and with good reason. The menu is diverse enough for most appetites. The common room absorbs sound and sports channels on.
Sticks to basics and succeeds. Other guests clearly get it too as all shared areas are kept clean and safe without any need for posting rules everywhere.
Definitely on my Melbourne list.
The room was big, the bed was clean, I was glad I didn't miss the trip, the scenery was great, and there was a small balcony, I enjoyed it very much. The hotel has many services, although I didn't try them one by one, but they are heartwarming enough

I would recommend this place to every solo traveler who wants to save up their money, it’s a really good hostel with a good environment which is nice. I never had any bad experiences stay in here and hopefully will never get any bad experiences either in the future!!
First time living in a hostel and already have some expectations of what is it going to be like
Since feedback is that the shower heater does not work well where it gets cold and switches to hot suddenly causing my body to get burnt
I was told that I can arrive early and store my luggage first but I didn’t expect that what they mean by storing is leaving my bag on the open vide floor in the corner of the pub (definitely know that it won’t be kept safe since the employees themselves are busy running the pub)
The room is very smelly
Like smellier than what I expected
Nice room, however toilets kept blocking up every couple days and the showers could be a bit cleaner. There was one shower on our floor and 2 toilets which didn’t seem like enough.
The vibe of the place is nice and the people

Great for stopover or budget conscious traveller as location is great, near railway station, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Well managed but apparently little to no interaction from staff. Believe it would be great if staff is more proactive in nurturing relationships with guests so as to give it more life and meaning. Just a suggestion but overall, value for money.
Great location just a five minute drive to Woolies. The room is very clean with plenty of supplies like plates, bowls, tablewares, cotton swabs... The owner is pretty kind as well. Affordable and quality accommodations.

Location is good for an innercity visit; all museums and other locations are walking distance but also very central to train and tramstations.
Room was shared with 3 others and basic: bed had a curtain for privacy but bed light not working and mattress was soft in the middle. Amenities were good however not overly clean.
Open window was perfect but came with a little noise of trains. Only used the fan the first night as the temp had gone down already.

I licked the rooms and it was nice to have separate bathrooms. Everything was great except the kitchen. This is of course due to other guests not cleaning up after themselves but in other hostels this is the same and I have never experienced it like this. I have a feeling that the cleaners only do a little bit so there is always one part of the kitchen/dinning area messy and gross. Other than that still would recommend because of the nice rooms and good breakfast (although again very messy).
This was one of the best yha we have stayed at. The room was bare but that is to be expected. The amenities, by contrast, were excellent: Two well appointed kichens with nice pans and plenty of space; A roof area and multiple living room areas; an herb garden and plenty of recycling areas; and the games and TV area looked brand new and not old and worn out . The kids enjoyed it and so did we. Highly recommended.

SSRuss83I stayed in Box Hill motel between 3rd of Nov'23 - 5th of Nov'23. My husband and I arrived at Box Hill motel around 12-1pm. We were so exhausted as we took turn driving from Sydney - Melbourne. We drove from Sydney past midnight. Upon calling if we would be let in early, surprisingly it is allowed. Otherwise we would have slept in the car until check-in time if the room isn't ready yet. We got room no.1 and it was very clean. I didn't use the towel as I prefer to use my own towel, my husband also use his own towel.
One of the hanging towel though had a snot on it and I put that towel aside despite we didn't use it. There were 3x plates in total and one of the plate was dirty and I assumed previous guest must have used this 1 plate and didn't wash it but instead just slipped it in between the clean plate. We used 2x plates for ourselves but I washed the 3x plates myself.
Great Wifi speed too as I was able to complete a little bit of work from Room no.1.
My parents always taught me to appreciate and respect people's places. Upon checking out, I saw Carol and OMG, she is so kind, friendly, down to earth and helpful. She was busy rolling people's luggage to their room. I remember my father always taught me the great businessman is not the one who always wanted to be served but the one who knew how to serve others first. There's a saying about ”servant leadership”. A great leader know how it feels to be at the bottom to observe, learn and serving others as well as better appreciate the top and experience various roles to understand the duties and responsibilities of each roles.
THANK YOU Box hill motel team and Carol too for allowing us to stay at your beautiful clean and tidy place. We were able to sleep very soundly, hope nobody can hear us snoring :)
I highly recommend Box Hill motel, Melbourne to anyone on a trip to Melbourne.

GGuest UserConveniently located, competatively priced and great pick up and drop off service to/from airport. Clean room and friendly staff. Nothing to complain about.
GGuest User1. The location is very good, very close to the famous Victoria Market, and opposite is Victoria Market, you can go to eat seafood at 6 am.
2. It is not far from the SKYBUS boarding point, about 500 meters walk, two tram stops, and then walk 500 meters to arrive. Melbourne's trams are free and very convenient to ride.
3. It is about 2 tram stops away from the city center, not far from the University of Melbourne and the National Library. There is a supermarket 200 meters away, and there are Asian supermarkets and restaurants downstairs, so eating is not a problem. It is not far from Chinatown.
4. The youth hostel is upstairs, and you have to carry your suitcase upstairs. The front desk is Chinese, and the communication is very smooth.
5. The kitchen is on the second floor, there are not many bowls and knives and forks, but there are many pots, boiling pots, and frying pots.
6. The room hygiene is average. I live in an 8-person female room, which has a urine smell. The flight of the companions who came to play together was one day earlier than mine, so I didn't book an extra hotel. I just made do with one night and left in time for the flight. It's OK for one night. If you stay for a long time, you should jump to a better bed.
7. There is a 50-year-old man in our room, who is very brave.
8. When cooking in the kitchen, it seems that everyone eats very simple food, whether Chinese or foreign, they all eat instant noodles. Only I bought shrimp and salmon to cook. There is an Indian who makes curry chicken. There is free hot water in the kitchen.
FFive-centIt's a motel, so don't expect a four-star standard. Located facing Apollo Bay, the top-floor sea-view rooms boast a large balcony – perfect for watching the ocean during the day, stargazing at night, and listening to the waves. The room is well soundproofed; once the balcony door is closed, it becomes very quiet. However, the air conditioning in the living room was broken, and the hairdryer was also out of order. The two-bedroom apartment is spacious and comes with a kitchen and a washing machine. On the downside, no slippers or other toiletries were provided, though shower gel and shampoo were available. A significant portion of the room cost was covered by Ctrip points, which was a great perk.

HHyNarong EangI had a really comfortable stay at this motel. The room was clean, spacious, and surprisingly quiet considering the location. The bed was comfortable, and all basic amenities were provided. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially during check-in. Parking was easy, and the area felt safe. For the price, this motel genuinely exceeded expectations. I’d definitely stay here again.
