Liked the building and entrance. Really dim lighting in the room, a bit too dim. Location is a bit out of the way but tram is literally at the hotels doorstep so not too big of a deal. Great front desk staff.

This is a great small hotel, close to the museums and walking distance to everywhere. The only place we didn’t walk to was the airport, but public transportation is great and just around the corner! Staff is super friendly, decor is modern and cosy (as you would expect in a boutique hotel) and everything was super clean! Shower was great! Another nice touch is that after breakfast they leave water, coffee and tea available for the guests! We enjoyed those several times after returning from our walking around town! :-)

After a couple of tough years with covid where we had to book this hotel a few time. for my son birthday,we finally got there. After reading negative reviews I have to say I was a bit nervous but when we arrived 25th June quite late we had a lovely welcoming at reception . Yes the stairs are very narrow and not for the faint hearted if you are on the top. But lucky for us we were on the first floor. The room was large and airy with 2 French doors leading out onto the street view with a balcony. We were in room 14. Housekeeper came in everyday and made the beds and clean up and clean towels if we wanted them were left everyday. We didn’t eat here as we wanted to explore the city but the food seemed to smell lovely. What I would say is the the building is old and you would have to expect to see a dated look. I for one love that but if your looking for modern look, then this hotel isn’t for you. The city it surrounded in old building and that what I loved about it. Couldn’t fault the stay at this hotel.

I tried to book this directly on their website from North America but the payment failed. It worked with Booking. Before arrival, they asked me to pay city taxes direct to hotel. I tried using the link in the email and it failed. I contacted them, they provided a different secure link that worked. This is part of their payment security. We showed up around 2 pm, rung buzzer, met by staff member and given a helpful check in package (keys, info sheet & wifi password, city map (with hotel marked on)). Our room on third floor had a street view, very nice. There was a lift to upper levels except penthouse. Very quiet area except for other noisy guests one night. Two TVs, multiple channels and the one in bedroom had some movie channels in English Well equipped room with fridge, stove top, dishwasher & soap, drying towel, kettle, Krups coffee machine, cutlery, cutting knives, can opener, cork screws, mixing spoons, fry pan, large & soft pot, cutting boards, plates, bowls, cups, water & wine glasses. I could not get the oven to work (error code) but there is one and it wasn't important enough for me to ask them for assistance. Dining table, 2 chairs, sitting chair, wicker sofa, ample lights, 4 double coat hooks. King bed, firm but comfortable, thick hot covers. Good sheers and dark curtains. Nice big shower, bright clean bathroom, no vanity, ledge for stuff, 3 rolls of spare toilet paper, very nice. We were there 6 nights and used the washing machine in the basement, worked fine and used the drying rack in our room. The location is great, in a quiet neighbourhood, near the big museums, nice park, a few take away restos (open during the day) next to the Van Gogh Museum which were very popular and tasty. Albert Heijn nearby, 5 mins walk from hotel. Near tram stops and a direct bus from Schiphol to Concergebouw. Maybe a 15–20-minute walk to Foodhallen. Open air canal cruise behind Rijksmuseum, nice to take (10 min walk). We enjoyed our stay there and would stay there again if in Amsterdam. It had everything we needed.

The location is very good next to the famous Albert Market. The museum area is also very close to the breakfast. Even if you book a hotel, there is no reservation for breakfast. When you check in, you only need 21 pieces of value for money. The hotel staff are very helpful and personal. Will give you the room according to your needs (within their permission) and some entertainment suggestion room is not big but enough to use the toiletries is called dead clean very cute overall very satisfied

This hotel was highly recommended by a friend who lives in Amsterdam but we were very disappointed, the location is amazing, the breakfast great but the rooms really need to be updated. There was a horrible smell in our room, the maintenance staff totally agreed but could not resolve what was causing the smell. We had to go to the front desk and ask to be moved, they knew there was a problem but they waited for us to request a change. The beds are very uncomfortable. On the positive side the views are amazing from the premium rooms, the breakfast is good, the location is great.

We had a magnificent stay at De ware Jacob Hotel with a family of five at the end of 2020. With the Covid restrictions it was not easy to travel around, but nonetheless we decided to spend a weekend in Amsterdam benefitting from the beauty of the city with fewer tourists at this moment in time. This Hotel was recommended to us as a cosy newly renovated boutique hotel at the heart of the Museum District, and the price was really good, so we were not disappointed. Our stay was even more memorable than expected. We were received by the very friendly owner and treated with a glass of Cava. The suites and the family rooms were very nice and spacious, we also benefitted from an upgrade, which was a nice gesture. A nice sushi dinner was delivered from a nearby restaurant and we enjoyed it in the lounge with a nice restaurant ambiance. We were pleasantly shocked to be given the variety of Georgian natural wines tasting by the host, something we never tried before, accompanied by the delicious strawberry covered in chocolate. Fantastic!! Breakfast was nicely presented, had nice selection and we were also offered a glass of Prosecco to start the day, but instead decided to swap it for extra cappuccinos and a homemade cake on the house. The city itself was delightful, being not so crowded as usual. We really enjoyed walking in the nearby park. Also went to The Red Light district which was absolutely empty, something unforgettable and special!!! It was indeed a very pleasant break in beautiful Amsterdam.

I love EVERYTHING about this hotel! I had been sent a few recommended hotels by the company I work for, but I found this myself, and it was at least 10 times better than all the same price hotels, I was recommended in that location. (I only paid 10 € extra myself for an upgraded room, and it was so worth it) I asked for a different room than the one I got next to the elevator, (because I am a very light sleeper) And they quickly changed my room to a perfectly quiet one.( Room 205) I loved this hotel, the decor, it's staff and the overall vibe, even down to the music played in the cafe area. I would stay here again even if I had a bigger hotel budget. This is beyond what you pay for. A special thanks to the helpful staff Yisha and Sylvia.

A great and memorable experience overall. Having stayed over for 2 nights during my time in Amsterdam I can only recommend this sleeping accommodation. First off, the concept is a great idea and just works just so very well. Of course, while sharing a compar**ent with other guests may seem uncertain, I personally had a positive experience, as it appears to be a common sentiment among others as well... Two key points stands out and worth highlighting here. First, the continuous kindness and attentiveness of the staff left a lasting impression while second, the outstanding cleanliness of both the sleeping areas and shower areas which was particularly appreciated. Besides, it's worth remembering that the Train Lodge is located quite a distance from Centraal Station. In my case, I was glad to have my own bicycle or there is a train stop that will take you there.

Be aware of the a well-designed process of this hotel that can your stay a nightmare. Me and my family came to Amsterdam for short vacation in July, not for the first time so I know what to expect there in terms of hotels standards etc. My wife and daughter came one day before me, and once arrived at the hotel and entered the room, they realized it was so hot and humid, that there was no chance they can stay there (especially in case one had high blood pressure or any kind of heart/health issue). Of course, they asked the front desk for any type of solution but there was no intention to solve this, what so ever (they were offered a fan). The only option they were left with was to book a different hotel in vicinity and move from there as soon as they can - this is how bad conditions were. With all the arguments we had, hotel had no intention to offer refund, voucher, discount or any other complimentary or symbolic token of appreciation. What became evident afterwards, is that this is a deliberate process, planned in advance - hotel sends an ”no air condition” email message just 1 or 2 days before the cancellation deadline to be formally correct and they have ”ready-made” answers. While I was trying to solve the issue next day, I've witnessed a young couple with a 6-month baby from West Virginia that had to check out a day earlier because of the same reason, and another guest concerned about the heat and trying to understand these conditions via a phone call - but the front desk agent ”reeled” him in to book, with no intention to warn about the inhumane conditions. All together, not just a terrible hotel but a case of although formally correct process, clearly deliberately misleading and situation that represents a health risk.

Not quite sure why there are so many negative reviews calling this place unacceptable, for the price you pay you’re definitely getting your moneys worth and some. The male young receptionist was friendly at check in and guided us to our room (although he didn’t know some answers about basic questions about the area, such as he incorrectly told us the wrong time for the last trams, he was very kind but maybe the staff could be told some answers to the most common questions). The junior suite was extremely spacious, had a lovely bathroom, lots of mirrors which was nice, large bed and lots of light windows overlooking the dock. The room was fab, however like some other reviews state sometimes there was a mysterious odour, particularly on the last day, but it wasn’t unbearable. Could definitely do with some harder mattresses which would definitely improve everyone’s experience but I still slept perfectly. Location is perfect for the price, only a 14min tram away from Amsterdam Centraal. The coffee pods and machine in the room were nice but could also put some biscuits there too which would be amazing. Maybe needs a repaint of the room but it’s safe to say i’d definitely stay again

After the check-in, I encountered a series of problems. The front desk arranged people to help me solve the problem. The service was very good. My suitcase is broken, and the hotel is looking for someone to help me get it. Then the skinny is too slippery to open the door. The front desk is looking for repairs. I can wrap the tape on the handle to facilitate my access and the hotel steak is super delicious.

This review is a bit divided in the sense that the hotel is very central to pretty well all you want to see. But it is not for those who have mobility problems as the first thing you are faced with before even seeing reception is a very steep flight of 15 or so steps which you have to get your suitcase up with! However reception staff are extremely helpful and kind and could not have done too much for us The building is a real Amsterdam tall house and as a result is a warren of rooms and corridors and steep flights of stairs. Most rooms do not have ensuite. It is slightly shabby and the decor is a bit old fashioned but it all seemed clean Breakfast was ok but not amazing However the warmth and kindness of the staff did so much to make our stay enjoyable

Eccentric place: one of two “hotels” located in what is essentially a building of residential apartments. The Amadi has the reception on the 4th floor and our room was on the 2nd. Stairs/lift take you past residential floors. Pros: Manager was really helpful when we needed to get to the local hospital. Reasonably good location just outside the main canal ring but within walking distance of everything, with tram stops nearby. Local area has plenty of eateries. Room quiet and bed comfortable. Cons: Over-priced for what it is - feels more 3 star than 4 star. No breakfast facilities (though plenty of places nearby) Odd-shaped room with barely any space on one side of the bed. Temperature control on aircon didn’t seem to do anything. Coffee machine didn’t work - a few drips after a lot of straining. And nothing for non-coffee drinkers. List of TV channels didn’t fit with actual channels. BBC1 and BBC2 listed but we never found them. Bathroom poorly designed - a small circular sink with a really small shelf. A slight smell of drains.

My boyfriend and I booked a twin bedroom at the hostel. We then wanted to change the date of our stays so we wrote an email. We were allowed to change the date of our stay. About two weeks before our stay there was money drawn from my bank account (nearly 500€!) without me authorising it. (Even though we had already payed for our stay.) We never got a bill or an explanation what the money was for. We phoned the Hostel and were told, they had to check with management and we´ll be sent an email. We never got an email, so we wrote one ourselves to the management. We never got an answer. We arrived at the hostel. Everything was dirty and there was a bad smell. When we asked for new bedsheets, because they had lot´s of stains, we were told that they are fresh and we can´t get other ones. Also in the kitchen (which was really small, two people could hardly stand in there together) there was no cutlery, no plates or bowls. On our last day at the hostel, we finally managed to get at least a part of our money back. Still, we had to pay 170€ more then when we booked the hostel in the first place. So in the end we payed 500€ for 3 nights which is really to much for the service you get.

Me and my friend booked this hotel as there were good reviews, which is very important to us as we came from Norway to stay there for 6 days. It was also our first time in Amsterdam and were not familiar with the location. We were first checked into a wrong room than the one we had booked, and were told that we could move the next morning to another one. After we were moved to a bigger room, they told us we had to pay 50 euros due to the ”cleaning from the other room”, which we expect to be included in the price we already paid for our stay. Never experienced this before. Some staff don't smile, don't say hello, and looked strange at us when we walked through the reception. The next days our new room was not cleaned at all, one day they only came to make the bed, the next day they only came with new towels on the door. One day the cleaning lady also rushed in without knocking while we were in bed, which we thought was very unprofessional. We did not feel comfortable or safe at all staying here. We will not be going back here. Location is also pretty far from the centrum

We recently visited Amsterdam for a 3 day trip and the Clemens Hotel was great! Centrally located and within walking distance of all tourist spots and shops. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. They took our bags to the room, greeted us with a complimentary beverage on arrival, lent us an adaptor for our phone charger and stored our bags on departure day with no fuss at all. We didn’t feel rushed and immediately felt at ease on arrival. The complimentary breakfast was lovely with scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit, yoghurt and cereals on offer. We stayed in a room on the third floor which was a little small but very comfortable and clean with a lovely hot shower perfect after a day of exploring. The only negative I can see to this hotel is the very steep stairs, which we managed with but they would be a challenge for some. Overall a lovely stay and great hospitality. Thank you

I've read a few reviews before going there, and I do understand where some are coming from, but definitely not others... the rooms are indeed small, but they have all the space you need, specially if you're travelling alone. You can barely hear the noise outside (you can hear the planes flying by or the ambulance on the street, but it's very muffled) and the rooms have good sound insulation + heating. The issue is the other clients staying at the inn that don't have common sense and respect for anyone else and just arrive late at night screaming and talking loud for no reason... you really can't blame the hotel for that. The public transportation is amazing there, with tram and direct bus from Schipol airport nearby. I've went to a concert in Melkweg, so also very close to the arena, which was the purpose of my trip. It's pretty much center Amsterdam, so it is an old building, so the stairs are a bit small. It wasn't my case, because I had only a small bag, but the hotel staff asked the couple in front of me if they needed help carrying their bags upstairs. So the staff goes extra and beyond to try to be helpful. Would return there a next time.

But if what you look for in a hotel is only a bed to sleep in then this hotel offers a very spacious , comfortable and modern room.Since the hotel opened it's doors in 2019 is relatively a new hotel. It may not be centrally located but is well connected via public transport with the rest of Amsterdam, It's location in itself is also an attraction as is relatively a quiet residential area but still being in the docks area of Amsterdam it offers plenty of canals to discovered , less crowded than those in central Amsterdam.

Marvellous location just off the Museumplein. can walk to the van Gogh and RijkMuseum in 5-10 minutes. We got an executive room on the 4th floor - can get the lift. View from the top is good, and is very quiet considering the location. Street parallel is the top-end shopping street in Amsterdam. Room was compact, with the basin in the hall as the bathroom had a bath as well as a shower and toilet; 2 attached twin beds with eco-conscious mattress and duvet. Air conditioning worked well. had a coffee/tea machine but didn't need it. Breakfast was buffet with good choice of local farmer foods. Ample coffee from the machine. The location is really very good, convenient from anywhere, the hotel is small, but understandable, the location in the city center, everything is worth it, there is a chance to come to the Netherlands again, it is really a man ’s paradise

My boyfriend and I just stayed here for 3 nights and we absolutely loved it! We booked pretty last minute but managed to get the last canal view room (room 207) and it was so worth it! The room was lovely, really good size, very clean, bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and not to mention the view! Large windows let in so much light and made the most of the outlook over the beautiful Amstel Canal and the surrounding iconic Amsterdam architecture. The bathroom in our room was also lovely, again a very decent size, large shower with great water pressure and temperature. Hand soap dispenser and body wash dispenser and hairdryer also provided. Room also came with a good wardrobe for hanging up clothes, a flat screen TV, a mini bar and coffee machine. The wardrobe had a small ironing board and you just had to request an iron when you needed it which was never a problem. All the staff we dealt with were really friendly and helpful - and like nearly everyone in Amsterdam, spoke perfect English. When we checked in we were given recommendations on where to eat as well as discounts for renting bikes and for a local breakfast spot near by. Hotel is in an excellent location just around the corner from Rembrandt square that has lots of restaurants/bars and cafes. The square also has the nearest tram stop. Reception for the hotel is open from 8am -10pm and the front door is locked at 10pm for the protection of the guests which made us feel extra safe and they explain thoroughly how to gain access to the hotel after hours. Just a note for anyone with mobility issues or travelling with lots of luggage - there is no elevator and the stairs are small and steep to get up to rooms, we managed fine and thought it added character to the building and had a good laugh coming back at night after a few beers!! We would hurry back to stay here again and highly recommended it to anyone. Thanks so much for having us :)

The place is fairly clean, but there are some major issues: 1. The locker is tiny 2. The room gets SUPER hot at night. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and it has never been this bad, especially when it's under 20 degrees celsius outside. The fan was on full blast but the windows didn't open. I had to leave in the middle of the night because it was so bad. 3. The staff wasn't very helpful. The guy seemed unmotivated to help me be more comfortable or find my way to a hotel once I decided to leave. Eventually b He did call me a cab but this was after I walked around Amsterdam for an hour at 2am trying to find a hotel. I would NOT stay here if I were you. The hotel wasn't even that much more expe sive in the end, and you will thank yourself for paying extra for a decent sleep.

It's not our first time at the hotel. Last time was just before lockdown in 2020. Nothing has changed. it's as good as ever. We had a room at the back of the hotel this time as opposed to the front. The room was a slightly strange shape as some are here. It was spotlessly clean, beds are extremely comfortable, the shower excellent and always nice and hot. The rooms are basic but have everything you need, you don't visit Amsterdam to stay in your room. The hotel staff are excellent, friendly, helpful and very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. There is an excellent coffee machine in the lobby, which is free to use for guests. Breakfast, an excellent choice of hot and cold food, pastries, juices, hot drinks, well worth paying extra for. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre. Well done again, and I'm sure we'll see you again soon.

We stayed in one of the basement rooms during our recent trip. The hotel made it clear when we booked that it wasn't a huge room, but we found it perfect for what we needed. The hotel is clean and well kept, and the lobby area is lovely. The location was great, there is a tram stop right outside, the heineken museum is only about a 10 minute walk away, and its about a 20 minute walk into the main area, with lots of nice little cafes and shops on the way. The staff were also really friendly, and kindly gave us a complimentary drink as it was my Husband's birthday during our stay - Much appreciated!
