Had a fantastic stay with wonderfully friendly and accommodating new owners, locals Halina & Chaz Lyons. This charming inn is located about ten minutes outside of downtown Middlebury. Beautifully decorated in a rustic Vermont style and impeccably clean. A hearty gourmet breakfast is included, with multiple menu choices. The Lyons have retained all of the kitchen staff, including Chef Tony, and the food is fabulous. The grounds are delightful, and the common areas are well-appointed and relaxing. Extremely comfortable rooms and beds. We came to fly fish and got lucky catching both brown and rainbow trout across the street from the inn. Given all of the choices in the area, this is your best bet!

It's a cute establishment and the most of the staff were really nice. Our first night we had a reservation (confirmed) when we arrived we were told the kitchen was no longer accepting orders ( the waitress seemed very stressed we felt bad for her) however another lady confirmed we did have a reso and accepted us. The food both times we ate in the attached pub was fabulous!! We actually had alot of laughs with the staff in the pub (the ladies were great!!) Similar to other recent posts - there is no one to greet you for check in-check out - basically an honor system - but very straight forward. We stayed in the top "Bread Loaf" suite - Not sure if anyone knew we were there the whole time lol (not that we needed any cleaning service). The beds and rooms are very cozy, no TV which we didn't mind. HOWEVER - our rooms had an abundance of brown beetles and lady bugs - we caught at least 10 a day - not exactly entertaining. The heat was not on for the majority of the time we were there (4 nights) thankfully we had a heater for one of the rooms and extra blankets. We did call the after hours number with no answer and no call back - seemed odd. The morning breakfast was great and the staff were quite nice as well. Overall we had a good time aside from the beetles and lady bugs however if you need any assistance - there isn't much to be had. I think the Inn is listed for sale so maybe the management is in transition? The Inn has potential and could be a really great place to get away with great food if there was maybe a little more service and less "air bnb" vibe? Bring back Darryl & Darryl for more laughs.

We arrived at the Waybury Inn on Saturday evening 2/10/24. When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk to check us in. We rang the bell several times and walked around to locate someone. When we got to our room; the Green Mountain Room #10, the room was very chilly. The rooms were equipped with 2 radiators, one in the room and one in the bathroom. We asked the bartender in the pub how to operate the radiators. It doesn’t take a “rocket scientist” to figure it out, however, they must have either been broken or the heat was off, as I saw lockboxes on the thermostats throughout the Inn. No matter which way we turned the knob, the radiators were stone cold. There was NO HEAT all night. The bartender at the Pub told us we could request a space heater, however before we realized we weren’t getting any heat, it was too late. Also, a note to those that like to sleep with a television for noise, there was NO TV. We slept until about 6:00 AM still freezing. I took a shower to warm up, even though I was skeptical about having hot water. We had hot water, and the shower pressure was great, however, the tub DID NOT DRAIN. I had to stand in the water, and it was very slow to drain after the water was turned off. We would have liked to stay for the complimentary breakfast which didn’t start until 7:30 AM. We couldn’t wait to get out of there and into our warm car, so we left around 6:30 AM, as we were miserable. I would not recommend staying at this establishment.

We hadn’t been to the Waybury Inn/Pub for dinner since pre-pandemic. Our son and his fiancée were visiting and we were looking for a restaurant in Middlebury open on a Monday evening. Most everything was closed. Except for the Waybury! They just started opening on Mondays. The chef sent out some free appetizers for us to try. Loved the tempura lilies picked fresh from their flower garden and pickled fiddleheads preserved on site earlier that spring. They have a new chef who is keeping some dishes traditional the Waybury but also introducing some new and unique dishes.

Room was quaint, typical colonial decor. No tv, which was fine by me. Our room faced the street, and you could hear traffic going by. Place could use new thermal windows as our room was very cold and the radiator did nothing. It was like camping inside. The exterior wall, which we had 2, were very cold, and you could feel it. We had drinks and apps at the attached pub and resturaunt, which is very nice. If you go here in winter, ask for a space heater or extra blankets. We had the green room, if the helps with your decision. Also, all rooms are upstairs, so if you have problems with mobility this is not an option.

Our latest visit to the Waybury Inn was our seventh (we think!). Each trip has been most enjoyable including this two-night stay from November 6-8, 2023. We usually visit in May but wanted to try an off-season visit. We took this getaway well after foliage season and before ski season. We stayed in the Robert Frost room and it was beautiful. The entire inn is well appointed and is quintessential New England. One of the reasons we always visit the Waybury when visiting Vermont is the genuine friendliness of the staff. Suzanne, Barbara, Patrice, Kathy, Tracey and Joe are most hospitable and add to the warmth of the inn. We're sorry we didn't meet everyone on our short two night stay. Don't forget to keep the door pass code with you...just in case! There's no better inn than the Waybury Inn.

My wife and I are huge Newhart fans, so when our October trip took us to Vermont, there was no other question where we were staying. Located about five miles from middlebury the inn sits off a quiet road. The rooms are cute and quaint, we really enjoyed ours. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We weren't sure about eating here, we thought about going into town, but decided to settle up on their tavern, and are so glad we did. Three food was fantastic, the ribs (smoked on site) were on point. We finished off the night at the bar and had lovely conversations with other guests and Jonathan, the bartender. I highly recommend this inn, can't wait to return!

If you're a fan of the old "Newhart Show", this is where they filmed a portion of it and they have some memorabilia scattered around which is fun to see. The Inn has many nicely decorated rooms to choose from and serves a great breakfast, which might include Vermont Maple Syrup that they actually collect on their property. They also have a Tavern/Restaurant at the Inn which is a great addition and a number of "nooks and crannies" if you like to read or have a casual conversation outside of your room. Just one further comment, that if you have limited mobility, our room did have a claw foot tub for showering, which was beautiful, but for some might be difficult to use. It's a lovely area of Vermont, with a number of things to see and do. We will return to this Inn when again in the area!

A wonderful country inn-comfortable and beautiful in a small village-great landscaping, wonderful and warm staff, historic space, amazing breakfast scones. They do a great job of welcoming visitors-starting with cookies at the front desk. We walked in on the middle of a local radio show broadcast from the main room. Very nice people.
