TownePlace Suites Lawrence Downtown

Lawrence
First off, this is a nice hotel and is in a great location with lots of shopping, eating, and nightlife. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the Lawrence area and it is a very clean hotel. Also, they are taking this pandemic very seriously as the staff are are all masked and even the housekeepers Don on a mask as you pass them in the hallways, but this is where the niceties end... I should of had forethought and checked my bed thoroughly before I even brought my items into the room, but with this being a new hotel and such a nice property I didn't. The first thing I experienced that was not right is that I am a Gold Elite Bonvouy member and thus I do get a ”complimentary room upgrade” upon check-in (depending on availability at time of check-in) and since I was paying with a discounted rate I could get that upgrade but not at the discount. So, it wasn't a ”complimentary upgrade” even though they did have rooms I could upgrade to My first night was a true nightmare as I woke up at 12:30 AM scratching my arms like crazy. So, I stripped the bed and crawling on my pillow was a live bed bug!!! I took a picture of this and went down to the front desk and immediately complained. The overnight clerk reported it to the management and housekeeping and switched me rooms. The new room was exactly what I originally had and due to the issue of the bed bugs I wasn't offered any compensations for everything I went through and had to buy to get rid of those nasty suckered other than a ”Thank You For Staying At Our Hotel, Please Come Back Again” I did talk to a front desk manager even though I tried to talk to the general manager buy she was out and not available. The manager I did talk to told me that they are looking into this situation and are taking appropriate measures to get rid of them. Excuse me but if you trained your housekeeping staff and management on how to look for these bugs in the first place this wouldn't of happened. I am to be exempt from paying state and city taxes and I asked that manager to check my portfolio to see if those taxes have been taken off of my bill. She checked and told me they were, but when I checked out they were NOT and thus the front desk gal had to reimburse me for those charges. Not only was I not compensated for the situation of the bed bugs but the front desk manager lied to me. If that is the case then I highly doubt they got rid of the bed bugs in my first room I was in. Also, there is a mold situation going on on the 2nd floor due to their ice maker that has the carpeting in front of it so sopping wet that there is standing water, and it was like that the whole week I stayed here. I will never return back to this hotel again, but wanted to warn travelers to be aware of this property.
