We are hotel people. I like nice hotels. Unfortunately we planned our five day visit to Florence very late in the game and our choices were limited unless we wanted to pay $1000 or more per night (we did not) We spent five nights in early October at the Daphne House. Here is the good and the not so good… -check in was actually easy and super friendly but you have to go to a small hotel on the third floor of a building one minute away. - the location is great. Literally across the street from the main train station so you are not pulling your bags for blocks. The street was noisy from about 8 am to 10 p.m. but after that it was quiet. There are bakeries, cafes, stores and a grocery store on the block -The hotel is 15 minutes or less from all of the tourist areas like the duomo, uffuzi, Rialto bride, etc. -There is a small lift to get your bags up to the room. The rooms are all up two tall flights of stairs. It will hold two people and a few bags -The air conditioner worked well. - The shower was Modern and great -The room was very large. Like a studio apartment with a divider between the bedroom and living area. -The room was clean and housekeeping came daily -The front door to the building is locked, the area to the guest rooms is locked and you have a lock on the door. It felt safe - There was a fridge, coffee maker, tea kettle and a hot plate in the room .Two modern smart tvs. On the not so great side… -We only got one room key and you had to activate the room to leave the power on. Therefore, if one person wants to leave to pick up coffee or something, you either have to go down stairs to let them back in, or sit in the dark while they go out. We did not ask for another key so I’m not sure if we could have gotten one if we wanted - There is no lobby, etc. the entry hall of the building was dirty and dated - The bed was kind of hard, and the pillows were horrible (once again, we did not ask for different pillows so perhaps they had better ones). -This is not a luxury spot. It was decorated in a modern fashion but would use some maintenance. There were chips on the wallpaper and scuffs on the wood floor. If you are in the mood for a luxury, upscale experience this is not the place We were busy day and night in Florence and took day trips from the train station. This was a great place to shower and sleep. It was good enough. It was still very hot in October and the air-conditioning worked well at night when we needed to cool off,
