Lodge at Torrey Pines

Spent 1 night here and had one of the most disappointing stays I've had in recent memory. Booked through AMEX FHR. Be aware that this hotel provides the bare minimum of $60 toward the Free Breakfast Entitlement. Unfortunately, that does not truly cover the full breakfast and hotel is not shy about that. An egg entree with a side of bacon is $29, add in a cup of tea for $6 and it's already $35. Multiply that by 2 and it's 70 bucks. As the dollar amount allocated toward breakfast is set solely by the Lodge at Torey Pines they are completely fleecng their guests for the few extra dollars, that's inexcusable, especially in an alleged 5 star resort. Had a conversation with a Manager about this on my way out and although apologetic, didn't seem too concerned and just told me he was sorry and would pass my concerns on at the next staff meeting. Furthermore, as refernced below, this property to me does not give off the vibe of a 5-star hotel. Although there are cushions on the chairs at the pool, there is no pool attendant to provide service setting up your chair or umbrella. Also, no sunscreen or aloe provided at the pool. Memo to the Lodge, these are things guests see at other 5 star properties. Also had lunch at the pool and had to ask for a refill on the drink even though there were 3 guys working with no other customers present (actually 2 were working and chit-chatting & the 3rd Pool food employee soent (no joke) a minimum of 2 hours chatting up 2 women at the pool. Upon checking out, picked up our bags/luggage and as the Uber showed up, the employee casually walked away. Again, these are things guests should not see at an upscale property. While it's obvious some employees are friendly and hard-working, there are a bunch that definitely need supervision that is sorely lacking. That, along with the nonsense with the deliberate low dollar amount of the breakfast entitlement show that the resort, while picturesque is definitely in need of new (and better) Management. Zero chance I would return.

The Lodge remains as nice as it was the first time we stayed there 20+ years ago, the American Craftsman style holds up well, and has been well taken care of. This is a really nice physical property and the staff are more than up to the task of delivering a high-end experience. And the golf courses are also pretty awesome, we played the North course for the first time this visit and it is just as pretty as the South course (also a little more open/easier).

We have come to the Lodge since it opened in 2002. The staff, facilities, view, and amenities are equal to none. And the attention to detail - whether it's the crickets playing in the background in your room, the little gold band surrounding your room key, or the espresso capsules - is astounding. Just this past weekend, the pool attendant took a special trip to one of the onsite restaurants to get the right drink for my wife - and then gave us the recipe. Outstanding!

We had our wedding at the Lodge this April, and it was the most magical experience. From our first visit when we were given a tour of the stunning property, to our menu tasting at A.R. Valentine, to our most special day until the very end of the night, the staff at the Lodge was kind, helpful, organized, and professional. Our Event Lead, Vanessa, was fantastic to work with throughout our entire planning process. She was responsive, respectful of our needs, and did everything in her power to ensure that our wedding day went as smoothly as possible. We have had many of our guests rave to us about how incredible of a venue the Lodge was. We can’t imagine getting married anywhere else and the Lodge will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We recommend the Lodge to any couples looking for a perfect place to have your wedding!

This place is top notch! From the physical building, to the kindness of the staff, to the customer experience overall, this place is special. I love the Japanese influenced designs of Charles Sumner and Henry Mather Greene, with the warm Honduran Mahogony and ebony peg joinery. The Stone and brickwork are exactly what Charles Greene himself would have designed. The pool and hot tub were amazing, and I loved sitting in the mission-style furniture, kicked back with a glass of scotch and a cube! What a wonderful experience overall.

I had my wedding at The Lodge this past May, which meant I had a year+ long experience with The Lodge that extended far beyond an ordinary stay. Vanessa (the events lead) was a cherished partner throughout our entire planning process. She not only cared for my every need, but also lent her talented perspective amidst the myriad of decisions that are required throughout the processes, all based on her years of experience in the luxury events space. My experience wouldn’t have been the same without her. On top of our planning experience, the execution of our event was world-class. The Lodge went above and beyond on EVERY detail (big and small). The guests at my wedding walked away with once-in-a-lifetime memories all thanks to The Lodge. Brides, if you’re considering The Lodge, don’t think twice, BOOK IT!
