We love staying here. The location is perfect for putting our kayak on the river from the parking lot! It is an easy, beautiful walk across the draw bridge to the downtown area with all the restaurants and shops. The views are amazing. The breakfast is adequate but not overly fancy, as is the rest of the hotel. The price is very reasonable, however, which makes it our go-to hotel. It is only about 30 minutes drive to Atlantic Beach, also, and much less expensive than the hotels there.

Our trip to NC was a special Christmas gift to my wife. We planned it for February and chose this hotel in New Bern for its proximity to downtown. When we checked in, Laura greeted us as if we were family coming back home. She provided detailed info for shopping, restaurants, and even where to park. When we returned that evening, the heater wasn't working in the room and Laura very quickly relocated us to another room close by. She continued to show excellent customer service. Unfortunately, I've had to deal with some severe back problems and that night suffered from extreme pain and chose to drive home to VA. As soon as my wife told Laura we were checking out, she immediately wanted to be sure there were no problems with the hotel as she would do all she could for us. My wife explained my back problems to her so she would understand our early departure. Upon leaving, she expressed sincere concern for my health and for us to have a safe trip home. First, Laura was amazing and is a great representative for the hotel. Secondly, the hotel was clean, comfortable and in a great location. We will be returning to complete our trip in the future, and we will only consider this hotel because of Laura. We highly recommend them and are extremely appreciative of Laura.

This would be a 5 rating except for one major flaw at the front desk. We were in New Bern for our 37th Anniversary. Our children sent flowers on the 11th and we were notified on the 16 th. The flowers which we would have enjoyed all week were dead. We were told that we left the “do not disturb” on our door. We were trying to be considerate of the housekeeping staff!! The housekeeper that helped us was Phyllis. She is a 5 star employee. Giovanni checked us in and made good suggestions for places to eat. The shining star of the hotel was our breakfast hostess, Katie. What a sweetheart!!! She exudes that she loves her job. If management took less interest in whether the tables were cleaned (I observed the same man wipe the same table 4 times) and did the management role of supervising the front desk…we have spent the last 15 anniversaries in Marriott properties from the US to Spain!! We recd notification that we had a package….usually a message left on the room phone or a note on the door, but never 5 days later. Management thought a few extra points made it okay…this is not what I have grown to expect from Marriott!!
