Hotels near Tsugaike Onsen Motoyu, Otari

We stayed here as part of a Tripadeal Aus package and it was a classic - “you get what you pay” for experience. Hotel is definitely mid range but room sizes were ok. We stayed in a fusion Western / Japanese room with 2 singles and 2 futons on tatami mats which was fine. Smoking and smell of smoke was a bit of an issue as doors to the smoking room and karaoke lounge were left open most of the time.. so the whole place smelled. Hotel staff tried to help by offering us some scented spray and were friendly and accommodating enough (shout out to Otomo San who was very helpful through our whole trip) but the cigarette smell was bad. Being on the northern side of the valley, the hotel backs onto Hakuba Norikura Onsen and the trails were great for young ones and beginners and being ski in and out, was ideal. But you are bus rides from everything and other parts of the Valley like Happo, Tsugaike (next village) or Cortina Limited food but hotel breakfast buffet was ok but Japanese style with some mix of Western (croissants and sweet bread). We chose to eat Dinner at a local family run place instead (see other review) which was not far from hotel - walkable. Lunch at the Snow drops cafeteria outside the hotel was cheap and locally exceptional.. one of the positives. Our passes as part of the hotel deal was limited to Norikura and didn’t allow us to ski across to Cortina (fine print stuff - where as a normal Day pass should allow you to ski both of you bought it locally) or buy a Hakuba Valley pass which gives you access to all the resorts. In hindsight, we should’ve just invested in a Epic pass in Oz in 19/20 which would’ve gave us 5days skiing. Ski gear rental offered by the hotel was also pretty average with very old gear (I’m talking 10-15+ yrs old) and definitely not up to scratch if you’re expecting new-ish stuff.. we ended up organising our gear through another place in the Echoland village (see separate review) which was great. There is a luggage delivery service which was helpful to send our bags back to the airport without having to lug them around all over Japan and the trains. Hotel onsen was the saving grace and great to have it just “upstairs” after the end of the day and is segregated. All in all probably just ok.. but we stayed here for the “value” deal and local experience.

In short, it is a little inconvenient, but very beautiful! I just said. I usually use the affiliated Marion Shinano, but it was fully booked, so I used Granjam Tsugaike. The shortest walk to the slopes and convenience store is 5 minutes. It's a little inconvenient compared to Marion Shinano, but because it's new, the inside of the building is very clean, so the points are quite high! The only question I have is that boots are not allowed inside the building, so where should I put my sneakers? That's what it means. Even after checking out, you can use the coin lockers in the hotel, so put on your sneakers and take your boots to the drying room to change them. When I asked where to put those sneakers, he said, ”Please put them in the locker. ”They said. Right now, I'm wearing ski boots, which are prohibited inside the museum, but do I have to go back to the locker inside the museum and pay 500 yen again to put the sneakers in the coin locker? ? ? However, if you leave it in the drying room, it may be stolen or recovered... Marion Shinano has a shoe storage area, so it's a little unkind, how are you all doing? I thought.

The shop owner is very nice and enthusiastic. Although the communication is not very smooth, the shop owner and staff will try their best to meet the customer's requirements. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The hotel provides free ski delivery service, and you can slide back to the hotel from the slope in front of the hotel, which is very convenient. You can get discounts on ski rentals by booking your ski pass at the hotel, highly recommended!

The inside of the hotel is beautiful. There is no elevator, so please be careful if you ski or snowboard with a lot of luggage. The room looks stylish and clean. The washroom and toilet are combined and not large. The water area feels a little old. The restaurants and baths are beautiful, and there are places where you can get free coffee, so it's nice! The best thing is that the customer service of the staff is wonderful. I had a good time with just that. Depending on the weather, the stars were very beautiful. I enjoyed the star-watching tour more than I expected. Also, you can go directly to the slopes from the parking lot, and you can also go straight to the lockers from the parking lot, so it is very convenient for ski resorts! ! I am very satisfied.

The location is on the mountain, a bit far away. shuttle bus only a few hours, inconvenient. But the relative environment is very quiet. The women's bath can't find the sauna but the men have it. There is free self-service. There are not many breakfast options, but it is acceptable. Overall, it feels good.

Superb little hotel with fantastic staff and great food. We stayed 3 nights and would have liked to stay more :) Before we had even arrived, we had asked a few questions by email and the staff were exceptionally helpful. So we were pretty confident we would be looked after when we actually landed in hakuba. We arrived into Happo bus terminal and were picked up in a private transfer (Although the hotel is approx 3 min walk from the bus terminal!). But it removed the stress and got things off to a great start. We arrived around lunch and wanted to ski that afternoon, so the hotel gave us a ski pass at a great rate and contacted the ski gear rental company to come collect us. The room was perfect. We stayed in a basic room as there were no other rooms available. So meant we didn’t have an in room onsen. But honestly, we didn’t miss it. The onsen you can book for an hour is lovely. It wasn’t ever really booked up. It was really clean and an incredible way to end the day. We had a bit of a mix up and someone else staying at the hotel “accidentally” took our onsen booking. Quite a surprise when we turned up and there were people in there 😂. The hotel staff were great though, they closed one of the other two public onsens for an hour for us. They are normally reserved for just male/female only. This was a great touch and rescued what was going to be a bit of a lost evening given we had come back especially for our onsen booking. Breakfast the following day was awesome. We had the Japanese breakfast which came with lots of little dishes, all of which were delicious. Maybe the best miso soup we’ve had! Worth mentioning that I am a vegetarian, and they accommodated this with zero fuss! Switched up a few dishes for veggie ones. Which was really appreciated. I was all set to just eat cereal for 3 days! We also ate dinner at the hotel which was fabulous. Lots of little dishes all of which looked and tasted great. Again, I had a whole different vegetarian menu, with some really unusual, innovative dishes that were delicious. Didn’t think I’d have one of the nicest quiches I’ve ever had in a Japanese ski resort! Price was reasonable as well for what was a really nice dinner. All in all, highly recommend. We had booked this accommodation in Hakuba for 3 nights in Jan24; family of 4 (2 adults and 2 adult/children). We were supposed to be picked up from the bus station by the accommodation and sent several emails to confirm that pick-up was still happening the day before (and day of) our arrival. Eventually receive a reply, that yes, they were picking us up at 4:30pm. Waited at for 20mins and then decided to phone as no one arrived (this is highly unusual in Japan for people not to show up on time!)y. The answered that ”yeah, they are on the way, but they were running late”). Bear in mind we were waiting in -3C degrees waiting for someone to show up. When we went to check in the 2 boys (maybe early 20s) behind the counter were very lack-luster. Point to the building outside as to where we were staying - but no offer to help carry bags through the snow laden path; or even show us to our rooms. We struggled up to the building and couldn't get access inside - the door was locked. Went back to reception and only then did he get up from behind the counter to help us. We had to take off our shoes in the entrance area - strewn with what seemed like hundreds of wet shoes and then walk through the water logged entrance - no offer of slippers but an off-handed comment about ”oh there should be some slippers in your room” (there wasn't). There was none of the usual information exchange when checking in; ie breakfast (evidently you can buy this in the hotel, but not sure where as there was only a fleeting mention on check out). We were disappointed at the presentation of the room; old curtains hanging off with hooks missing; noisy neighbours which made it feel like we were in a school dormitory rather than a $$$ accommodation. Thankfully these neighbours left the next day - but we were wondering what the hell we had booked into. There is no sound-proofing; you can hear everything in the corridor, stomping, loud talking etc. Shuttle bus is available to get to town, but you have to put your name down on a schedule and it was not readily available. The day we definitely needed to use it (check out) in order to catch the bus, only one shuttle vehicle was available and there was so many people waiting and everyone was late getting to their desired destinations. If you are looking for high quality Japanese service and style of accommodation that you find throughout Japan, this place will not provide you with it. It is fitted out with what seemed to be Ikea-style furniture; bunk beds in the second room that my youngest (tallest) son couldn't fit into so we had to put the mattress on the floor. Toilets are standard western-style toilet, not the Japanese ”special” toilets (bidet, auto flush etc). All appointments throughout the suite was very basic western standard. The only view we had from the room was towards the back at other buildings - not the beautiful view as shown on the advertised room. We figured out that there is probably only 4 rooms

We stayed here for 2 nights in July. The hotel and rooms are clean and comfortable. The lack of vegetarian / vegan food options was disappointing considering this is a Marriott Hotel. The resteraunt may not be theirs, but still expected better. The staff were very helpful, although the hotel shuttle to drop us to the station was only available for a 30 minute timeslot in the morning. Strange, but not a problem. Location is good, still has a feel that it could be a lot better by just making small improvements. Its the details that matter, at least that is why we booked Marriott. Still, we would stay here again (and maybe bring our own food).
