I really wanted to give this hotel five stars, but I can’t. The pluses are most of the staff are wonderful and the place has an amazing view. When we checked in, our rooms weren’t ready, but the staff seated us in the closed bar area and brought us nice drinks. When they realized from her passport that it was my daughter’s birthday, we were given a lovely tray of sweets! My room was suite 200, with a view of the Colosseum, from a floor to ceiling window! Amazing! There was a nice living room area, too. The included breakfast service was very good, also with a tremendous Colosseum view and excellent service. Here is why I don’t rate it 5 stars: My room was directly above the bar, which is noisy every night until 1:00 AM. Voices and music clearly heard every night. Room needs to be soundproofed. I complained about the noise at desk on two separate occasions, but I don’t think anything could be done. Breakfast room service is included; it’s a great perk. We needed an early breakfast one morning as we had an early Vatican tour. ( leaving at 7:45) Desk clerk assured me and early room service was no problem. Mine was delivered on time, but the rest of my group didn’t get theirs til 7:40. Upon coming in by himself one afternoon, a staff member rudely asked my grandson if he could help him, in a tone insinuating he didn’t belong there! (maybe because of his long hair?) Lastly, one would expect to be able to get a drink at the bar after returning from a hot day of site seeing. Not here! Bar doesn’t open til 6:00, and a reservation is necessary! It is evident the bar business attracts a lot of outside money for the hotel, and bar reservations fill up. This truly is a spectacular property, but if you go, avoid suite 200!
