I can't recommend this place highly enough. Spotlessly clean, comfortable rooms, effective aircon & good WiFi. Superb location for the beach and all the shops and restaurants in Unawatuna. The family that run the guest house go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the guests enjoy their stay. Nothing is too much trouble for them and the Sri Lankan breakfast is an absolute delight. Complimentary tea and biscuits on arrival and complimentary tea, pancakes and home made Christmas cake on Christmas day. Lovely, genuine people who want you to enjoy your stay.

My review, of course, will not be about this hotel, but about the hotel of this chain, Thaproban Pavilion Resort & Spa. We booked a room at the Thaproban Beach House Hotel, when we came to check in, it turned out that our reservation at this place was missing, and we had a reservation at the Thaproban Pavilion Resort & Spa. Thanks to the Trip.com team for helping us understand and resolve issues. And the Thaproban Pavilion Resort & Spa turned out to be much better than the Thaproban Beach House. True, it is not on the beach, but the beach is 5-7 minutes away. The hotel is super, all the amenities, large rooms overlooking the ocean. Very tasty breakfasts, 2 swimming pools on site, one with salt water. In general, I highly recommend the hotel. We really liked it. And we never regretted that we moved into it.

Wonderful place with a lush garden in Unawatuna area in the main tourist road. They let us for an early checkin so we didn’t have to wait in the lobby area. Room was spacious with modern furniture and included a minibar. Air conditioner worked perfectly. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was spacious. Hot water worked perfectly. Modern fixtures too. Green villa was close to all the main attractions. Highly recommended for a calm, quiet, comfortable stay in Unawatuna area.

Firstly this probably merits 3.5 out of 5. The reason is I felt quite disappointed when we arrived, having booked directly with the hotel and asking for “Superior” rooms which bear no resemblance to the Superior ones shown on the well-known booking site. I initially thought we’d been given the wrong rooms and had to double check with reception . We had two rooms which at $96 per night were the most expensive of our trip. We don’t normally spend a lot on hotels so this was meant to be a treat at the end of a long tour. These rooms were pretty basic, smelt quite musty as they were built in to the rock face, had many steps to reach and the sofa in one room was torn. The mosquito net had several holes in it. I understand that Sri Lanka has had a rough time recently but to charge these kind of prices, especially in the low season is not really justifiable. The hotel really needs a good returb, and I noticed that the rooms below ours were being updated during our stay. Plus points were the staff - absolutely amazing, helpful and polite and the food which was delicious- try the fresh fish/seafood plates. Also it was really difficult to find! Put up a sign board! The hotel has some way to go before it can be accurately described as a “luxury boutique hotel”. Overpriced.

We are currently staying at Araliya Unawatuna resort. So far the experience has been very disappointing to start with. Check in was delayed due to various reasons. High season and very busy. One of our family member’s room was booked in as a triple room for 3 adults. We booked this reservation six months ago. They said we can pay when we get to the hotel. However after going back and forth this was sorted finally. The whole check in process took about 1 hour. I won’t go into details of this as this was sorted. The breakfast buffet - Out of juice selection only mixed fruit fresh juice. All other juices are cordial. Small amount of watermelon was kept in the breakfast buffet for fruits. No other fruits in the buffet. For a five star hotel you would expect to have a decent selection of fresh fruits. Dinner buffet also did not have any fresh fruits. Today we wanted to order a drink from the pool bar. We normally look forward to have drinks by the pool bar. We were told since we are a group booking we cannot order drinks and charge to the room. The pool bar man spoke to the management and we were advised they won’t be able to take our order. This was highly disappointing as I don’t carry cash or credit cards when we are in the pool. This made us feel very unwelcomed. Very poor customer service. They give only one room key. If there are two people in the room you need two room keys. Otherwise without the key we cannot even access the lift and go to our room. Somehow the guy at the reception was very nice and gave us two keys on request. He did say the management has discouraged giving two keys. I will not say his name as I do not want this person at the reception to get in trouble. Pool towels- they give you a card. When you want a towel you have to hand the card to the pool man and then they give you the towel. When. Returning the towel, they give us the card back. If you loose the card they charge you LKR 3000. We have been to many five star resorts around the world and never had to go through all this to get a pool towel. The bathroom had only 2 towels when we booked for 2 adults and a child ( 8 years of age) We were out the whole morning in the pool and then the beach. We put the sign for the room to be cleaned in the morning. As soon as we arrived to the room at 1 pm , the cleaning person came to clean the room. This is only a small issue. At least the guy came to clean the room, but with everything else it just added up. We have booked three nights and checking out on the 31/12/24. Just wish we didn’t book 3 nights!!!! Whoever is in charge of management is sadly not doing a good job. I hope they take this review well and improves the management.

A super hotel with good facilities and a good location. The buffet breakfast is comparable to the standard of lunch and dinner. The hotel’s open-air saltwater swimming pool is clean and buoyant. It faces the sea and makes waves. It’s amazing. The family suite we stayed in, open the skylight, the sun shines in, it is too comfortable.

We visited this stunning hotel in Sri Lanka over Christmas, and it exceeded all our expectations! The highlight of our stay was the incredible effort the staff made to prepare a traditional English roast dinner, making us feel truly at home while being miles away. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated with an art deco feel. The views were absolutely breathtaking, we had a sea view room with a huge balcony. The main infinity pool is stunning. The service was outstanding!! Every single member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. This was a Christmas we’ll never forget. Highly recommended!

The hotel is younger, the decoration is not bad, the door object is a food city, but the hotel is not satisfied with a lot of places: the first is to make a mistake our order, the triple room becomes a double room, until 6:30 to give us A triple room; the second corridor is small, the elevator has a very unpleasant musty smell; the third sheet is dirty, the spots are stains, I have to send a picture to estimate that no one dares to go. There is no cup in the fourth room, no drinking water, no kettle, tap water is very salty, you must buy water yourself. But the service is not bad, but also some free card darts, etc. A small pool is small but beautiful. So there are advantages and disadvantages, please decide for yourself.

Magnificent mini-hotel.
One of the best on the island.
Very friendly staff, small number of rooms. Although it's a la carte, the breakfast is very tasty and varied. Infinity pool with magnificent views. Nearby is one of the best beaches on the island without waves - Jungle beach. I highly recommend choosing this place. By the way, I advise anyone who gets a view of the garden not to be upset - the sea can also be seen from there. Overall, a wonderful boutique hotel.

SSiesta838Currently staying in Villa Gaetano this place is amazing.. Situated a short distance inland the location is perfect.. The family offer a complimentary tuk tuk service to Unawatuna and it is only 300 rps to get back.. The family who own the villa are lovely people and cannot help with your needs enough.. Food is delicious ( they even let my wife watch as part of a cooking demo) and delivered to your table outside your room.. I asked for a Scooter so we could get around.. They organised it.. In fact nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in the deluxe room option and it was ideal.. Please if you are looking to enhance your Sri Lankan experience give this place a visit you will not be disappointed.. We were only staying for 2 nights originally but extended as we are enjoying it so much.. Well done to the owners if I could give it more than 5 stars I would..
Llaurama_81456Big loft with kitchen, amazing huge terrace to watch the sunset from. View on Unawatuna coast. In the jungle, a bit far from the center and the sea (10’ walk) but totally worth it. Keerthi and sujeewa are the nicest people we’ve met in Sri-Lanka (and all Sri-Lankans are very nice!), very helpful with everything and breakfast was delicious. Everything perfect, but if you are afraid of squirrels or open spaces in the jungle maybe you’d better stay by the seaside. If you love nature, want to wake up with birds singing, that’s the best place you can go in Unawatuna!! So sad to leave..
We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Hotel Panorama. The bungalow was clean and spacious and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The gardens and views looking down over the bay are gorgeous. But like all views from such a vantage point, has a hill to climb however this was not a problem and when we were being lazy, we just rung the bell at the gates and the staff drove the tuk tuk down to take us up. Breakfast: fruit, eggs etc, toast, tea or coffee and of course the Sri Lankan breakfast which I highly recommend. Lots of animals including monkeys and birds too see and of course, not forgetting the resident tortoises 😊 A lovely place to stay and I'd like to thank the staff for their kindness and hospitality
Positives The place is not catered as a hotel ideally instead it’s more of a the pass visitors to eat drink and spend nice time at the beach and that's pretty much it. Negatives The customer service of most of the staff was not good and were not attentive at all to what we were requesting and asking us the same question multiple times probably because of language barrier We booked an executive suite however the line was dirty in our room. The hotel was playing loud music most of the day until 11 o’clock at night which I’m perfectly fine with however you could hear the music in the rooms as well making it difficult for kids to sleep in the room at the same time. We had no Wi-Fi in the rooms and the hotel seem to be clueless how to fix it and easy thing for them to say was that it was an Internet service provider issue. however, all of a sudden on the second day the hotel was able to give us a new user password to a different WiFi. My question is why not give it on the first day itself when the Internet issue was there. The hotel is in no way classified to be called as a small luxury hotel, but more of a mere three star hotel strange to say but we were at a tropical place and that ran out of pineapple juice and hence they could not serve any pineapple based cocktails their answer was yes it’s on the way and should be there in 20 minutes however even pass post 45 minutes the staff either forgot to mention that the drinks were available or just forgot about our order Also getting into our room there was construction happening below our room and above our room as well. so when entering the rooms smelling cement and silica and once you are below the room you are hearing the sounds of cutting wood or marble On the flipside all these comments have been passed on to the manager and the necessary staff. However I would highly discourage hotel guests who think of a dream hotel stay at this property - kindly avoid and if you want to use the property as a place to take nice Instagram photos videos while enjoying your meals and beverages at the beach, nothing more Yes the review has been harsh however really in our 4th trip to SL this property was the 1st major letdown.
GGuest UserWe spent a wonderful time here from 13 to 23 October, we had number 11. It's just delight - you live like in the jungle. Come out on a huge beautiful balcony and listen to the sounds of nature, rain.. Watch birds, palm proteins, insects ❤ Very good, responsive and hospitality hosts, family hotel with pleasant non-invasive service and excellent staff. In the room everything is, cleaning every day, changing clothes/twitter once every 3 days, everything is clean, beautiful! No living in the room was ever, just as the mosquitoes! A normal standard breakfast, always ripe and delicious fruit - pineapple, papaya, mango, egg dishes, toasts, butter, jem - we had enough. To the ocean 3-4 minutes, if you walk through any restaurant on the shore. Near the shops, fruit shops. In the evening, the calming mantras from the temple of Devol Devalaya are heard.. Wish Villa Watuna good luck and prosperity, and the owners of health and happy life! I advise everyone this wonderful place for relaxation and rest from the noise of big cities.
GGuest UserThe view is great and breathtaking during sunset. They keep the hotel premises and garden clean. But when entering to the hotel, we feel like its an isolated/neglected place. Path is broken and both sides covered with ugly trees and bushes. No one to look at until we park and go to the reception. People park the vehicles wherever they want blocking other vehicles (we had to wait nearly half an hour to move our vehicle because someone was blocking it).We got a deluxe room with pool access. The bathroom design is so stupid and uncomfortable design. Rooms are not nice as the photos they have posted in web. Room amenities are ok but furniture and design of the room looks cheap. There is a very small staff. They looked like some random people found for day pay. Restaurant has no proper AC. We were sweating while having meals. There was only one guy to serve us who is not even wearing a mask. Special thank should go to the Chef. He had arranged very tasty food for the limited budget(we heard how they discuss the meal budget and all. They were too noisy and disturbing). Meal quantity is really small. Took longer time to serve. However next day breakfast was a buffet which was better. Rooftop is flooded when raining. Such a beautiful view is wasted. Elevator is out of service and we have to climb 4 floor to the restaurant. (this was reported in other reviews posted long ago). Such a beautiful location is wasted due to mismanagement.
