Inn at Laurel Point

James Bay Victoria|0.52km from Fisherman's Wharf Park
We stayed in the Laurel wing of the hotel in a ”partial” harbour view room with a standing balcony. Although 2 small chairs could be put on the balcony to make it more user friendly there is no patio furniture. The view was very nice & the room was clean. However, the laurel wing is certainly looking it's age. Worn & damaged baseboards in the hallways, worn carpet & the decor & furniture in the rooms are outdated. Some maintenance of the lighting & drains were needed. Shower/tub was small, cramped & dark. There is a small mini fridge & a Nespresso maker (for very small cups of coffee) but no microwave. The room was supposed to have a kettle but we had to ask for one as none was in the room. Our bed was comfortable. Housekeeping is only every 2 days & we were told that when we checked in. We didn't ask for an adjoining room & weren't told we had one. We don't care for these types of rooms due to noise. And noise there was. Lots of noise. Kids running in the hallways like it was a race track, people talking loudly, slamming doors, etc. If we wanted a slightly better room with more of a harbour view or a balcony with furniture we would have had to pay substantially more money. Everything seemed to be an additional cost at this hotel. Only water from a dispenser was free. Even a piece of fruit had a cost. The restaurant looked very nice & there is a wonderful patio area attached to it. However, prices were outrageous which prevented us from eating there. A small burger with no side was $20. There is no coffee shop to get a take out coffee or small meal. There are a few food & drink items at a kiosk by the desk that you pay for. There is a pathway that you can walk to Fisherman's Wharf & also to the downtown. Both were wonderful to walk on. It is a short walk to downtown as the hotel is outside of the main part. The staff were friendly & helpful. However we were told nothing about the amenities of the hotel when we checked in such as how to connect to wifi, where the pool was, that there is a sitting area outside the conference rooms, etc. It was on our bucket list to stay at this hotel for years. We finally took a big breath & decided to pay the price which in my opinion is too high for what you get. Because of that, regretfully we won't likely return.

Pendray Inn and Tea House

James Bay Victoria|0.58km from Fisherman's Wharf Park
This place is a real step back in time with plenty of period features and furniture. I stayed in the attic room which had both a bedroom and separate seating area as well as a bathroom with an old fashioned standalone bath which was wonderful. They also had complimentary macarons in the room which was a lovely touch. Check in was not a good experience however as the place was locked up when we arrived with no instructions and it wasn't till I went next door to the adjoining hotel that I was advised that check in was actually there instead. This is something which should have been communicated in advance and the computer system also appeared very slow as it took a good 10 mins to get the keys. Maybe an old fashioned paper booking diary would have been quicker! There was breakfast included in the price and it was a lovely setting in one of the old dining rooms at the Inn. However it was styled like an afternoon tea and there wasn't much of it, more like small canapés than a hearty breakfast. I also managed to leave my coat behind in one of the many cupboards in the room and initially I was able to communicate by email and ascertain that they had the coat and could post it on for me which was great. However after this initial email exchange there was silence for a week with me not knowing if it had been sent and when it was likely to arrive. After lots of email requests and 2 phone calls along with some mis information someone did come back to me to say it had now been posted but it still took a further week for the coat to arrive at address I'd requested. I know it was my fault for leaving it behind but they need to work on their customer service as one email with a tracking number would have saved a lot of time and worry. Overall the Inn itself is an amazing experience if you like your history and it's in a perfect spot in between 2 harbour areas but I hope they can bring the service up to the same level.

Booked for my wife and I to spend some time away exploring the Victoria and area. I initially booked the ”Petite Suite” which was just a bit too cozy for us (my fault - didn't read the details). Despite the busy time, the desk staff were incredibly gracious and worked to accommodate a swap to a larger room. Unfailingly helpful and polite - they made our stay. The actual Hotel is ridiculously charming and cozy, and ideally located within walking distance of various parks, pubs, restaurants, etc. When we come back to Victoria, we'll be at the James Bay Inn!

I had another great stay here. The valet was super friendly and helpful, and check in was a breeze. Front desk agent was very sweet. My room was clean and comfortable and I had a really nice view. This is my new go to hotel in Victoria. I also love that there’s a Starbucks in the lobby.

upscale brewpub. Excellent choice of meals throughout the day. Beers are, for me, mostly just OK but generous tasting is available. I found my favourite for the day. Wines are available. Very pleasant atmosphere and views of the water.

I had called 9 hotels prior to this booking searching for a suite option that allowed my mom and adult brother some privacy and no one being stuck on a pull out sofa. Chateau Victoria had a great layout option at half price of any alternatives I could find. In addition to that, the customer service agent I spoke with, Heidi, was a breath of fresh air to converse with. Unlike previous hotels I had called, Heidi asked logical, relevant questions, and listened and responded in a helpful manner to all inquiries that I had. She was knowledgeable, polite, and made booking a breeze. I will definitely book at this property again.

We came as a small group for work retreat. They have spacious suites where we had 2 to a suite each with own bedroom and bathroom with shared kitchen and living room. Super location. Food is good too and front desk staff is friendly. Would come back again.
