Sichuan Tourism | A 400-year-old landlord's manor, known as the 'Chinese Castle'

Xijia Mountain Residence was once a local landlord's manor, established in the 40th year of Ming Wanli (1612 AD), and was expanded successively during the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. It is representative of traditional residences in the southern Sichuan region. The front half of the manor is a three-courtyard residential area, and the back half is a garden, surrounded by corridors and defensive towers. The architecture is well-preserved and beautifully decorated, and is now open for free as a 'museum'-like scenic spot. The garden of the manor is the most gorgeously decorated part of the entire building, forming a stark contrast with the residential area. Especially the diagonal supports, which are divided into circular and rectangular shapes, the carved parts are also painted, while the common ones are usually plain, making the whole atmosphere rich and colorful. The current Xijia Mountain Residence is a museum-like attraction because it still preserves some old furniture and objects, such as tables and chairs, wooden carved beds, dressing tables, shrines, stone carved statues, etc. Most of them are collected from the nearby countryside, with the majority from the Republic of China era.
