The Famous Hosokawa Residence

Address: 3-1 Furukyomachi, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto, 860-0007, Japan. Getting there: The Former Hosokawa Residence is located in the north of Kumamoto Castle Park, a ten minute walk from the castle tower. Highlights: The Former Hosokawa Residence is the former residence of a branch family of the Hosokawa Clan, the powerful clan that ruled over Kumamoto during the Edo Period. What make this building interesting is that it is a great example of a high-class samurai mansion! 🤓 Entrance is through the main door that has a kara hafu style curved gable. After taking off your shoes in the main entrance a carpeted, anti-clockwise route takes you through most of the more than 900 square meters of buildings starting with the receptions rooms, on to the guest quarters and then into the families private areas.
