Five thousand Qing troops and the Black Flag Army went to Vietnam to prevent the French from invading our Chinese land from the north of Vietnam At that time, Mengzi was the front line of the war for the Chinese people, and for the warriors who went to Vietnam to fight, it was also a rear base they could rely on. More than 2,000 martyrs who sacrificed themselves on the battlefield of the Sino-French War cut off a lock of their hair and handed it to their comrades-in-arms: 'Help me take it back to the motherland!' Some, in the moment they charged towards the enemy camp, raised their swords and cut off their own braids first, leaving them on the battlefield. 'If I am to be sacrificed, let my comrades bring my hair back to the motherland. In order to remind future generations not to forget the heroes who sacrificed themselves in a foreign land, this temple was named 'Zhaozhong Temple.'
