Shuri Castle

#okinawatrip I visited Shuri Castle a decade ago and thus, I was able to view the original rebuild. Since my visit it burned down, which gave this visit a very different meaning. First off, it’s a bit disingenuous to still advertise the complex with the main structure as the picture, considering that’s what burned down. But if you don’t go in expecting to see that structure, you’ll be very rewarded. It made for a beautiful afternoon exploring the grounds and reading about the rebuild efforts that are taking place. I was surprised this time to find the tunnel system used during the war. I had not realized that was here the last time. It was a very informative afternoon, filled with lots of beauty!
