5 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT MOROCCO 🇲🇦 😍
The Sahara Desert, bazaars and souks are the perfect place to get lost 😍 Along the way you‘ll find many amazing animals and friendly people 🐪 🐍🐒 Our Morocco road trip felt like the perfect adventure without being too adventurous if you understand what I mean 😅
Here are our highlights to help you plan your trip:
🗺️ Places to visit / Things to do:
We did an amazing road trip in the following order:
1.Chefchaouen - the blue city 💙 You’ll find many cats here 🐈
2.Fes -Make sure to visit the local tanneries but be prepared for the worst smell 🙈
3.Ouzoud - You can see wild monkeys here🐒
4.Marrakesh - Stay in a traditional riad in the Medina for at least 2-3 days
5.Ait Ben Haddou - This ancient city was in sooo many movies already 🐪
6.Sahara Desert - We stayed at Sahara Luxury Camp (dogs allowed) right in the desert 🏜️
7.Dades Gorge - The nature looks stunning here 🌳
8.Taghazout - The perfect place to go surfing 🏄♂️
9.Essaouira - If you‘re lucky you can spot goats that climb into trees to eat the fruits 🐐 It looks very funny 😄
10.Casablanca 🌈
🚗 How to get around
Rent a car or bring your own vehicle 😁 We took the ferry from Algericas in Spain to Morocco (only 30 minutes) ⛴️ Always carry 2 wallets when you are on the road because the corrupt police will stop you all the time. In one wallet you can carry all of your valuables and the other one just has a little bit of cash inside to give away when the Police asks for it (they usually ask for a lot but if you show your almost empty wallet and say you don‘t have more they will accept it) 😅
⏰ Best time to visit
During the cooler months when it‘s not too hot ☀️ We visited during November and usually had around 20-25°C. cr:wanderlust_samoyed& Contact us for removal
The Blue City of Morocco
Getting There - There are many tours that charge £50-£60 online. However there is a location where ‘big taxis’ that go long journeys are located near CTM bus station in rout de tetoun. Big Taxis which are 7 seaters that costs £6pp one way. They collect the money beforehand and it takes about 2 hours to get there.
Attractions - the blue city is an attraction itself, there is no fee to enter you just walk in and roam around. There are waterfalls located here too.
Hotels - N/A
Food & Restaurants - There are many restaurants and food here, you can find all kinds of Moroccan food and some restaurants have an upstairs if you want a view. There are also restaurants near the river and waterfalls.
Shopping - The whole of Chefchouen has street vendors selling clothes, gifts and souvenirs you can buy and haggle.
I really enjoyed this place but i have to warn you than the journey here has great views but the lack of straight roads may require you to take sickness pills as its very mountainous.
You can spend as much time as you want here but for me 3-4 hours was enough. #chefchaoen #morocco #tanger #tangier
Cafe Restaurant Rahmouni
Cafe Restaurant Rahmouni is located in Av. Hassan II, 91000 Chefchaouen, Morocco, is open daily from 0900-0030.
The restaurant offers the best variety of local and international cuisine, and has a balcony sitting overlooking the nature of the blue city at decent price.
Friendly staff approach and greet you when you just come in the restaurant, and customers are free to sit anywhere.
I had ordered a shrimp tagine and a banana shake. Tagine is a Moroccan cooking vessel that is conical in shape and acts as a slow cooker. Traditionally, tagine is both the pot and the food that is cooked in it and uses Moroccan bread to scope up the meat, vegetables and sauce. Normally, chicken, beef and lamb are common meats used in tagine cooking.
Banana shake is not so cold, but the shrimp tagine taste nice, when you soak your bread into it.
Plaza Uta el Hamman
Plaza Uta el Hamman is the main square of the medina of Chefchaouen, this wonderful square is a great place to just bask and explore, it is filled with restaurants, souvenir shops and sidewalk cafes some with a terrace ( rooftop ) sitting and comfortable places to just relax.
The Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen, which the minaret has an octagonal shaft, is the oldest mosque in the area, occupies an area of around 130 square meters. ( Only Muslim can enter the building)
The incredible kasbah construction date in 1471, once a fortress protecting the area, featuring towers, many arches, domes and passageways to explore.
Lavadero de la Ciudad
A short walk from Bab El Onsar around 150 meters 3 minutes, you will see a public place for cleaning clothes and mattresses on the banks of the Ras El Ma valley.
You can have part of the Chefchaouen town view from here, and there are a lot of juice stalls in this area selling Pomegranate juice, orange juice and many more. Cafes and restaurants are around the pool, and you can sit on the pool for your drinks and foods, be careful it may be slippery.
Some of the locals still have their washing of laundry around here, and visitors can rent their Moroccan woman traditional clothing for photo shooting.
Bab El Onsar
Bab El Onsar is a gate which was built in the 16th century, located northeast of the Medina, and is around 500 meters 8 minutes walk from Place Outa El Hamam.
The main crafts of Chefchaouen are woven cloth and wool, which are then crafted into bedsheets, blankets, rugs, and clothing, and appreciated by locals and tourists.
Along the walkway are occupied by little bazaars that sell local crafts, arts, clothing, and traditional souvenirs. It's a treat for the eyes to see all the colorful wares being displayed against the blue walls. At times it can feel a bit claustrophobic as there does not have much space to walk, when all the wares are out for display.
Blue-tiful city of Chefchaoen
I've been to a yellow ancient city of Hoi An in Vietnam, yellow is believed to be the colour of prosperity, then I went here the blue-tiful city of Chefchaouen in Morocco, where blue is believed to be the reminder to lead a spiritual life as it represent the sky and heaven.
It is a perfect place to wonder and take nice pictures, i must say it is worth it to go up to the mountain to see this magical city and definitely a very touristy place.
We drove for 2 hours from Tangier, and booked 1 night hotel stay at Aymane Rooftop. It was a nice small roadtrip up to the mountain.
Before arrival, we though there would be some white and blue accents on the building like those in Greece, but when we got there, man they were not stingy with the blue..it is basically everywhere, from the walls, to the vases, chairs, benches, post boxes, trash cans etc.
We spent 2 days roaming the city, people watching, enjoying the delicious food and hanging out with the locals. It is a super friendly place and so vibrant. There are a few things you can do:
1. Take a guided tour
2. Sample local food
3. Sunset at Spanish Mosque
4. Enjoy the city view from Kasbah
To get to Chefchaouen is easy. There are daily buses to Fes, Tangiers and Casablance. It takes about 4 hours from Tangiers and 6hours from Casablanca.

Chefchaouen, a blue town in Morocco.
Love this place lots! The colour of the buildings look differently during day time and the night time. For me day time is blue town and night time is purple town!
#tripaway
Known for its iconic blue-washed homes with red tiled roofs, the little town of Chefchouraen is a true desert gem. It’s about a 7-hour drive from Marrakech, but it was one of my favorite stops in Morocco and was absolutely worth the trek. Stay for at least two nights to really appreciate the peaceful and charming Chefchouaen vibes. The best way to do Chefchouaen is to not make plans, and spend your days getting lost within its windy maze of cobblestone streets, photographing the beautiful blue houses and adorable kittens, and dining under twinkly lights strung over quaint courtyards. You’ll almost feel like you’ve been transported to a small Italian village, but for the smells of tagine and the artisans selling Moroccan rugs and the fact that basically everything is blue. Catch sunset from a neighboring hill and watch the city begin to light up, house by house, as evening calls to prayer echo through the mountains. The lookout point at the Spanish Mosque is spectacular but also incredibly popular, so if you want more privacy just hike up or down the hill a bit to get away from the crowds. #awesomepic

For the blue of Morocco, I have fallen for Chefchaouen countless times
Chefchaouen is a delicate and beautiful mountain town in the northwest of Morocco. As you leisurely walk into this place, stepping on the fine and irregular cobblestone roads, your eyes are filled with white and blue, carrying the refreshing breeze of the ocean. This place doesn't feel like a North African town, but rather like a Mediterranean island. National Geographic once described Chefchaouen as follows: 'The winding streets of the Moroccan town of Chefchaouen are covered in a layer of dreamy blue.'
Unlike the orderly blue and white of Santorini, the overwhelming blue of Chefchaouen is unrestrained and without any particular pattern, yet it comes at you in extreme harmony, making all the legends about it seem pale in comparison. It is said that the town was painted blue initially to repel mosquitoes. Later, people spontaneously painted doors, steps, staircases, windowsills, flower racks, mailboxes, and everything within sight blue. Blue has become a part of life here.
The blue of Chefchaouen is not a uniform shade; there is Prussian blue, ultramarine, lake blue, sky blue, phthalocyanine blue, deep blue, light blue, powder blue... Various shades of blue bloom unrestrainedly in Chefchaouen, and every stop at every street corner feels like being surrounded by endless blue. The residents of Chefchaouen believe that 'blue' represents 'the sky' and 'heaven'. Living here is like walking in the sky and imagining what heaven looks like, and those long staircases seem to be the stairs to heaven.
Some say Chefchaouen is also called the Cat Town, which shows the number of cats and the locals' affection for them. Wandering through the alleys of Chefchaouen, you can see cats everywhere, either strolling leisurely in the alleys or lying on the deep blue steps in a daze, or watching the hurried passersby. The time in this small town is slow and quiet, like a slowly breathing history, allowing every visitor to have a 'Blue Dream' moment.
The blue town of Chefchaouen
The whole of Morocco did not disappoint, but my favorite place is still the blue town of Chefchaouen. It has the atmosphere of life but not so worldly, it has commerciality but not so greedy, there are people who eye your pocket change, but more are those who still respond with a friendly smile even if the deal doesn't go through. The small town under the winter sun is slightly bleak. It used to be said that there were many Chinese people here, hoping that the town will regain its glory soon.
Chefchaouen
The ancient city of Chefchaouen in Morocco, with its intricate alleyways, feels like being in a dream of One Thousand and One Nights, filled with a strong Arabic atmosphere everywhere.
The world of blue pigment in Chefchaouen, Morocco
💙 Located in the northwest of Morocco in North Africa, the town of Chefchaouen, also known as the 'Blue Diamond' town, means 'looking at the top of the mountains' in Arabic. Paired with Mediterranean-style architecture, it's like being in a fairy tale world. This is also a paradise for cat lovers!
💙 It is said that the initial painting of blue was to prevent mosquitoes, and some say that in Judaism, blue represents the sky and heaven, and blue can keep people highly spiritually aware. It also implies that blue is under God's blessing.
💙 The shades of blue everywhere are not quite the same, azure, light blue, powder blue, lake blue, rich in layers, super out of the picture!
💙 Going up the stairs from the residents' houses, you can take a panoramic view from the top. I didn't take it, but someone in the same group did. Many residents' houses can be entered for viewing and taking pictures, some of which charge a few dollars.
💙 It is recommended to go in the morning or around 4-5 pm in the evening, the light is softer, and you won't take a yin-yang face, and the sun sets around 6:15.
💙 It is recommended to wear simple ethnic style or pure white
💙 Local specialty desserts can be bought in small amounts for tasting, most of them are too sweet, if you are not used to local dishes, you can go to the 'Chengdu Impression' Chinese restaurant 100 meters away from the town exit
💙 Don't take pictures of local women! Because something happened before, a photographer took a picture of a local woman, and then it went viral on the Internet. It was seen by the woman's husband, and then she was divorced. So local women will block their faces with their hands as soon as they see someone pointing a camera at them.
Exploring Chefchaouen, Morocco
Title: "Discovering the Blue Jewel: #penangtrip: #NatureLovers #couplestrip #deliciousfood "
As a travel enthusiast and blogger, I recently had the pleasure of exploring the enchanting city of Chefchaouen, Morocco, often referred to as the "Blue Pearl" or "Blue City" for its stunning blue-washed buildings. Let me take you on a journey through this magical destination, where every corner is a picturesque delight.
Nestled amidst the majestic Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is a feast for the senses, with its labyrinthine streets, vibrant souks, and striking blue-hued architecture. As I wandered through the winding alleyways, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the city's azure facades, which seemed to glow in the sunlight.
One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the bustling medina, where traditional Moroccan crafts and textiles abound. From intricately woven carpets to handcrafted ceramics, the souks of Chefchaouen are a treasure trove of artisanal delights. I spent hours browsing the stalls, admiring the craftsmanship, and bargaining with friendly vendors.
But perhaps the most memorable experience was simply getting lost in the maze-like streets of the medina, where every turn revealed a new surprise. From hidden courtyards adorned with colorful flowers to charming cafes tucked away in quiet corners, Chefchaouen is a city that begs to be explored.
Of course, no visit to Chefchaouen would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. I indulged in delicious tagines, savory couscous dishes, and sweet Moroccan pastries, all washed down with refreshing mint tea. The flavors of Chefchaouen are as vibrant and diverse as its streets, offering a true feast for the palate.
As the sun began to set, I climbed to the hilltop Spanish Mosque for panoramic views of the city bathed in golden light. From this vantage point, I watched as Chefchaouen transformed into a sea of twinkling blue, a sight that will stay with me forever.
Chefchaouen is a place like no other, a city where beauty, culture, and tradition converge in a harmonious blend. Whether you're drawn by its striking blue architecture, its rich history, or its warm hospitality, Chefchaouen is sure to capture your heart and leave you longing for more.

2024 latest! Best vacation destinations in March
March is a relatively hot season for travel, without extreme heat or crowded crowds, it is most suitable to go abroad for travel.
【Greece】
The two parishes in Greece, on the eve of Easter every year, both churches will hold a competition to "shoot" at the spire of the other church, called rouketopolemos starting around 8 pm (nearby churches start shooting thousands of fireworks, causing the town's sound to rise with comets and rocket explosions, the scene is very spectacular)
【Canada】
At the end of March, cherry blossoms gradually bloom in Vancouver, until they turn this city into a beautiful garden. Every year in April, a grand cherry blossom festival is held here. Riding a bike under the blooming cherry blossoms is really wonderful.
【Morocco】
In the spring of Marrakech, the blue and white town of Chefchaouen is decorated with flowers like a poem, visiting is like being in a fairy tale world of One Thousand and One Nights.
【Turkey】
The spring in Istanbul is like a melodious poem, with suitable temperature, cherry blossoms blooming on the side of the Bosphorus Strait, the blend of ancient and modern atmosphere is impressive.
【Iceland】
The early spring in Iceland is the ideal season to capture the spectacle of ice and fire. Stepping on the crystal clear blue ice cave, driving on the snow-covered wilderness, watching the aurora dance in the sky, and finally washing away the fatigue in the geothermal hot spring, a magical journey awaits you.

Dear travelers must pay attention to these seven intimate Tips, to make the journey smoother💖:
-
1. 🚢A bottle of mineral water from hometown is a secret weapon: Remember to check in a bottle of domestic mineral water before departure, and boil it with local water when you first arrive in Morocco, which can effectively prevent the small troubles caused by acclimatization💦!
-
2. 💵Money exchange tips, dollars are more cost-effective: It is recommended to exchange dollars in advance in China, and then exchange them into dirhams after arriving at the local airport. Not only is the exchange rate cost-effective, don't forget to remind the staff to give more change, because in a tip country, you may need to use coins to express gratitude at any time😊!
-
3. 📶Wi-Fi card is good, but it is out of contact in the desert: Although the local Wi-Fi card is affordable and the signal is stable, please remember that once you step into the desert area, the network signal becomes a luxury, so be prepared for the disconnection💻!
-
4. 🔌Conversion plug + plug board = charging artifact: Morocco uses European standard plugs, so remember to bring a conversion plug and a plug board, so that your electronic devices can collectively "refuel", and you don't have to worry about power shortage📱!
-
5. 🌞Sunscreen is beneficial, and common medicines are self-contained: The sun in Morocco is hot, and you must bring more sunscreen. In addition, due to the difference in medicines, it is recommended to carry basic common medicines for emergencies💊.
-
6. 🍜Instant noodles can also save the world: Moroccan local meals may not be in line with the taste of some people, so you might as well carry a few packs of instant noodles or snacks. When you are hungry, you can definitely solve the urgent need🍜!
-
7. 🧕Long skirts, trousers, shawls, must be prepared for entering the mosque: Respect local culture, female friends should prepare long skirts, trousers or large shawls, which are indispensable when visiting the mosque, both warm and decent💃!
-
Interactive tips💡: Come and leave a message to tell everyone what part of Morocco you are most looking forward to? Or what unforgettable experiences do you have in Morocco? Welcome to share😊.

Life is a wilderness, I had a great time in Morocco
I didn't choose a Chinese travel agency, but directly contacted a local guide, who was superb. The room he booked for me was also very good, and he was a nice person. It was worth the time I spent selecting.
Firstly, about my overall feelings, I can only say that I don't regret going there at all. The Morocco I experienced was sincere. There will be people in Marrakech trying to solicit customers, but most of them will stop bothering you after being rejected. You will indeed be asked for money for taking photos and carrying luggage, just be careful.
There's no need to overreact, but it's always right to be cautious about safety.
The guide in Chefchaouen seemed to have walked out of the Arabian Nights, and he was quite interesting. Also in Chefchaouen, when I had a sore throat and went to the pharmacy, a local guy ran around to help me find an open pharmacy, worrying that I might have an emergency.
I liked Fez. Walking through the blue gate of Bou Jeloud, you enter an ancient royal city full of vitality;
Casablanca is a soft green, I insisted on picking up two stones from the Atlantic Ocean.
In terms of food, apart from the tagine, there is nothing else, bring snacks and vitamins, because there are no vegetables, your mouth will crack.
For shoes, a pair of sports shoes, a pair for the desert, remember to bring slippers. Morocco·Africa
The blue pearl of Morocco - Chefchaouen!
Chefchaouen, Morocco is a small town in the foothills of the Rif Mountains. Known as the “Blue Pearl of Morocco”, Chefchaouen is famous for its eye-catching pastel blue medina. It has become a tourist destination for those looking for dreamy vacation photos. The history of Chefchaouen dates back to the 1400s when both Muslims and Jews were forced out of Europe and evacuated to Morocco seeking shelter. You should come here at least for a couple of days: walk around and take amazing pictures, eat Moroccan chicken (my favorite Moroccan dish)), buy some souvenirs. The best way to get here: take a train to Tangier (the closest big city to Chefchaouen), then take a bus. #trip #travel #morocco
the beauty of chefchaouen!
chefchaouen has to be one of the prettiest cities i have ever visited! this blue gem is located in morocco, spending summer there is one of the best choices i have made, drinking mint tea in a cafe next to a river and enjoying the nice view and weather really made me relax :)
"The Blue City" alias is only given to Chefchaouen
Morocco is known as the "European Garden", and Chefchaouen definitely deserves credit for it. Its colors are rich but not enchanting, a natural restraint of beauty. Its style is a bit like Santorini but more like a pure and naive fairy tale world. Its blues are varying in depth, naturally relaxed yet deliberately just right. I don't know if there is any corner in the world that deserves the nickname "Blue City" more than Chefchaouen.
The houses here are built along the mountain slope, so don't book a room that is too high up, otherwise it will be tiring to carry luggage up the irregular steps. As Shefshawan is close to the sea, you can indulge in seafood. Remember to have a cup of coffee under the big tree in the central square at dusk.
Morocco Travelogue | Encountering the Blue of Chefchaouen and the Golden Sands of the Sahara Desert
Hello, everyone. Today we are going to visit the Kingdom of Morocco (Le Royaume du Maroc), a coastal Arab country in northwest Africa. Here, we will encounter the blue and golden sky of the world, including the beautiful cities of Chefchaouen and the Sahara Desert.
Morocco, Africa
1. Chefchaouen
Old City of Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is a city located in the northwest of Morocco, a North African country. It is far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, and most of the houses' doors, stairs, and walls are painted in the brightest sky blue. This African small town, full of fairy tale beauty and romanticism, is one of the must-visit cities in Morocco.
On that day, I happened to pass by an alley where the sunlight only covered half of the wall, making it difficult to distinguish for a moment. Later, upon careful examination, I discovered that the clear blue on this side and the dark blue on the other side were actually one entity. Just like people, we have many facets - confident and happy, insecure and sad. Accepting that we have happiness and also embracing that we will encounter sadness.
By the way, when you come to Chefchaouen, you must try the local orange juice. It's freshly squeezed, abundant in juice, and very sweet~
2. Sahara Desert
Sahara Desert, Africa
The Sahara Desert is the largest desert in the world after Antarctica, located in northern Africa from the Mediterranean in the north to the Sudanese grasslands in the south. It spans the northern part of the African continent, with a length of 5,600 kilometers from east to west and a width of approximately 1,600 kilometers from north to south, accounting for about 32% of the total area of Africa.
In the history of Marrakech, Morocco, it was the starting point of the trade route for caravans crossing the Sahara Desert, and its transportation location was important. Today, our Sahara Desert journey also starts from here.
At a glance, a golden sun connects to a golden expanse, deeply sighing at the magic of nature, a masterpiece of divine craftsmanship. "Creating" mountains, rivers, and oceans, as well as creating countless grains of sand. It is very shocking and spectacular.
In the Sahara Desert, the most direct means of transportation is the camel 🐫. Slowly strolling through the yellow sand, riding on my beloved little camel, it is also a different life experience~
One of the most unforgettable memories to experience in the Sahara Desert is watching the sunrise, from the moment the tip of the sun appears on the horizon to when it fully rises. Each stage, each different state, always shining on the earth to provide all living things with the light they need - it is both strength and a kind of hope.
Wait until the night turns over and it will be a new day, don't be afraid of the imperfect corners in life, sunshine is scattered in every crack!
Chefchaouen, known as the blue city of Morocco. It is said that the town was painted blue by the Jews, and another version is that blue is like the ocean, to drive away mosquitoes. But no matter which version is correct, Chefchaouen leaves people with a dreamy and romantic feeling. Morocco, Africa.
