Cologne, with its history of more than 2,000 years, was once Germany's largest city in the Middle Ages and is now Germany's fourth largest city, after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, and is therefore a major transportation hub for Germany and even Europe. The wide Rhine flows slowly through Cologne, dividing the city into two parts. The east is the new district, the west is the old town, and the Hornsorren Bridge and the Deutsche Bridge connect the city. Most of the attractions and municipal facilities are concentrated on the west bank. One of the most important landmarks in Cologne is the stone-green Cologne Cathedral.
