When I visited the Gubei Water Town, it was a truly magical experience. It felt like walking through Ancient China but with modern day conveniences. I visited in Winter, so with the frosted over lake and bare trees sprinkled with snow, it looked like a Winter Wonderland. The town was filled with quaint souvenir shops, restaurants, street food and craft fairs. There also seemed to be a lot of fun activities like ice skating and bumper boats for children and families. As part of our tour, we took the very nice cable cars (which had heated seats by the way) up to an unrestored part of the Great Wall. It was very steep at parts but well worth the gorgeous views. Our tour guide,Winston, was amazing. His English was excellent and he was very helpful and informative. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Gubei Water Town if you want a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.
