Jogyesa Kitchen is one of the best kept secrets of Korean visitors to Jogyesa Temple that would be off my radar even though I have stayed at the nearby Aventree Hotel. Thanks to TA reviewer NamKhim for sharing on TA his visit to this unpretentious bistro tucked away in an alley off the main road. I liked the pristine, airy and bright dining environment with cheerful and smiling staff who welcome everyone who drops by and thanks each guest when they leave. It's great to know that the price of a rice or noodle set meal stays at ₩4,000. A simple meal of rice with assorted vegetarian dishes at the Temple Stay building opposite the Jogyesa Temple starts at ₩8,000 while a bowl of nengmyeon or chilled noodles at the shops along nearby Insadong costs ₩8,000. Jogyesa Kitchen must be pricing their dishes at or below cost. There are only five vegetarian dishes on the menu, so the chefs do every one of them very well. The server will take your order and collect your ₩4,000 meal card/coupon that you purchase from the bookstore/souvenir shop inside the Jogyesa Temple (yes, the cashier kindly gave change for my ₩50,000 note with a smile. Your food will be brought to your table in a jiffy but it's self service for unlimited servings of kimchi, seaweed soup, multigrain rice (for those who need to load up on carbs) and drinking water. My friend had the warm noodle soup while I had the bibimguksu or spicy chilled noodles (see photo). I enjoyed the bibimguksu noodles immensely. It is virtually fat-free but is very tasty. The noodles were tossed in a flavourful, homemade sweet and mildly spicy sauce. It is not as spicy as kimchi; if you enjoy Korean deepfried chicken coated in spicy, sweet sauce, and can amp its spiciness up another two levels, you should not break out in sweat or tears after eating Jogyesa Kitchen's awesome bibimguksu. Hearty, simple, low calorie fare that was carefully prepared and presented with pride. If you enjoy authentic, everyday Korean fare, or prefer simple ve
