This establishment has been in the neighbourhood for many years and offers mouthwatering dishes from Tandoori to Biriani and vegetarian fare too. Staff is very competent and service is highly efficient. Very reasonably priced

    5/5Outstanding

I've been a loyal customer of Kismat since I moved to Washington Heights over 25 years ago.The food is always consistently good (and very easy on the pocketbook!) and service is warm and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing. I love the salmon tandoori, seafood kurma, lamb vindaloo, and spinach/lentil patty appetizer. Kismat is what made this neighborhood liveable for me in the early 1990s and continues to be my go-to restaurant for celebrating significant milestones, birthdays, and even Valentine's Day. Thank you, Kismat, for always being there for us, and staying the same while the neighborhood keeps changing. You are like family. Fingers crossed for your expansion and also your new restaurant near City College!

Kismat serves reliable Indian fare in this long-standing Indian restaurant. They will address special dietary needs and the food is always flavorful and satisfying.

    3/5Average

Had an early dinner at this ]Washington Heights restaurant when visiting a friend. I was famished and Indian always seems to hit the spot when I'm feeling especially hungry. The two of us were welcomed into the restaurant which was almost empty when we arrived. We ordered a number of items from the very, very extensive menu, plus a couple of Indian beers. The service was fine and the food was good. I guess I've had better and more subtly spiced Indian meals but I found the food quite satisfactory, especially given the price, which was very good for NYC. What spoiled an otherwise pleasant dinner was a very large family group with small children who were seated just behind us, even though the restaurant had only one or two more guests at the time. I would have thought it would have made more sense to seat them in the back, especially since there is little room between tables and the children kept getting up and moving around, bumping into us and our table. In fact, we almost asked to be moved, but we'd already received some of our food. All that said, I know my friend, who lives nearby, visits frequently (both eat in and take out) and I coud with pleasure give it a second try. While I don't live in the Heights and thus am unfamiliar with its eating options, this is not a bad one.
