Shanxi University is located in Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province. The early Shanxi University Hall combines Chinese and Western, with the same literature and science, with a wide idea of running schools and advanced concept of education. It is one of the important birthplaces of modern higher education in China. The disciplines are complete and the scientific research strength is strong. It has a number of important discipline platforms represented by key disciplines of the state, key laboratories of the state, key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, key research bases of the humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, collaborative innovation centers of the Ministry of Education, and joint national and local laboratories. It has 86 undergraduate majors covering literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, agriculture, economics, management, law, teaching, art, medicine and 12 universities, and 7 undergraduate double degree admissions majors. Chemistry, engineering, materials, environment-ecology were selected in the top 1% of ESI's global ranking.

Shanxi University is located at the intersection of Wucheng Road Xuefu Street, Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City. The campus area is quite large. From the north, Xuefu Street is east to Jianshe Road, west to Wucheng Road, south to South Central Street. The campus has a beautiful environment, scattered buildings, antique, complementing modern buildings, and a large number of students.
