The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East, and houses the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world. The museum displays an extensive collection spanning from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman Era. The architect of the building was selected through an international competition in 1895, which was the first of its kind, and was won by the French architect, Marcel Dourgnon. The museum was inaugurated in 1902 by Khedive Abbas Helmy II, and has become a historic landmark in downtown Cairo, and home to some of the world's most magnificent ancient masterpieces. Among the museum's unrivaled collection are the complete burials of Yuya and Thuya, Psusennes I and the treasures of Tanis, and the Narmer Palette commemorating the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under one king, which is also among the museum's invaluable artifacts. The museum also houses the splendid statues of the great kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the builders of the pyramids at the Giza plateau. An extensive collection of papyri, sarcophagi and jewelry, among other objects, completes this uniquely expansive museum.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on the Giza Plateau, approximately two km from the pyramid complex. The Giza Necropolis is not a single pyramid, but a collective term for a group of pyramids standing on the Giza Plateau, mostly built during the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt around 2600 to 2500 BCE. The three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure are aligned from northeast to southwest, interspersed with queen pyramids and funerary structures, while the Great Sphinx lies to the east. Among the seven wonders of the ancient world, this necropolis is the only one that remains today. As for the alignment of the three pyramids, some speculate it corresponds to the three stars of Orion's Belt—though merely a conjecture, it adds a layer of imagination to the stone giants amidst the yellow sands. Upon entering the attraction, the first sight that greets travelers is usually the Pyramid of Khufu, whose massive scale far surpasses the other two. The remaining height of the pyramid is approx. 140 m. Today, travelers enter the pyramid through a passage on one side of its base, ascending along a dimly lit, low corridor to reach the pharaoh's granite burial chamber. Photography is prohibited inside the pyramid, and the narrow, stuffy passage poses a significant physical challenge. Nearby, the Pyramid of Khafre appears remarkably intact from a distance due to the preserved section of ancient limestone casing at its apex. Inside, the burial chamber is long empty, with only a vacant sarcophagus lying silently within. It was built by the then-emir Djaharkas el-Khalili on the site of a Fatimid royal tomb, from which the market takes its name. Located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, it remains a popular shopping area for both locals and tourists from around the world. As you walk through the market, the narrow alleys are lined with shops selling gold and silver jewelry, copperware, spices, perfumes, and souvenirs. The market preserves stone gates left from the reconstruction by Sultan al-Ghuri in the early 16th century. The intricate Mamluk-style stone carvings on the gates are a direct testament to the market's historical heritage. Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz once used an alley in the market as the setting for his novel, adding a layer of literary depth to the place. Hanging Church is a prominent Coptic Orthodox church in Coptic Cairo. It is believed to have been founded in the 3rd century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The church is built on the site of the south gate of the ancient Roman Babylon Fortress, with its nave suspended above the fortress passageway, hence the name "Hanging." Ascending the steps from the street, passing through the pointed stone arch and iron gate, you will see the 19th-century twin-tower facade, with courtyard walls adorned with biblical motifs. The interior of the church has a rectangular basilica layout, with a wooden vaulted roof shaped like Noah's Ark. The sanctuary is divided into three parts, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, John the Baptist, and Saint George, respectively. The wooden iconostasis in front of the altar is inlaid with ebony and ivory, decorated with geometric patterns and cross motifs, and topped with a series of icons depicting Jesus, the Virgin Mary, angels, and the apostles. The marble pulpit is supported by several slender columns, which symbolize Jesus and the twelve apostles; one black basalt column represents Judas, who betrayed Jesus, a design feature that is quite unique among Coptic churches. The sanctuary features a glass floor, through which you can look down at the ruins of the Roman fortress beneath your feet, intuitively experiencing the unique nature of the church's suspended construction. Starting from the 11th century, the church served as the long-term residence of the Coptic Pope, holding an important place in the history of the Coptic Church.

The Church of St. Barbara is renowned for its ancient icons and the relics of Saint Barbara. In addition to the cluster of churches, the Ben Ezra Synagogue is also located here. It is one of the oldest surviving synagogues in Cairo and, together with the surrounding churches, bears witness to the unique history of religious coexistence in this area. Coptic Museum houses a vast collection of early Christian art treasures, including textiles, icons, manuscripts, and stone carvings, making it an essential place for understanding Coptic art. Great Sphinx of Giza is an iconic stone sculpture in the Giza Necropolis, located to the east of the Pyramid of Khafre, and carved in situ from a single block of natural limestone. It is believed to have been built during the reign of the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Khafre, dating back approx. 4,500 years. The statue originally wore a striped headdress, was adorned with a uraeus on the forehead, and featured a ceremonial pharaonic beard on the chin. However, after thousands of years of wind erosion and burial by sand, most of these details have been damaged or lost. The missing nose is particularly striking, becoming a highly recognizable feature today. Between the two front paws stands the Dream Stele, placed by the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmose IV. The inscription records the legend of him receiving divine revelation in a dream at the foot of the statue before ascending to the throne, which is also one of the important clues for scholars to link the Great Sphinx of Giza with Pharaoh Khafre.

Unlike most exhibitions focusing solely on the pharaonic era, this museum traces the entire thread of Egyptian civilization, housing tens of thousands of artifacts spanning from prehistoric times through the pharaonic era, Greco-Roman period, Coptic era, Islamic era, and up to the modern day, making it ideal for visitors seeking a systematic understanding of Egypt's historical trajectory. The main exhibition hall follows a dual chronological and thematic layout: the timeline progresses through different eras, while thematic zones explore topics such as the dawn of civilization, the Nile, writing, state and society, faith and thought, covering both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. UNESCO provided technical support for the museum's establishment. Here, visitors can see the Nazlet Khater human skeleton dating back tens of thousands of years, the painted coffin of Sennedjem (a tomb artist from Deir el-Medina), the peasant woman statue by modern sculptor Mukhtar, and the textile exhibition hall showcasing Egypt's finest weaving masterpieces through the ages. The royal mummies exhibition hall on the underground level is the highlight of the entire museum: designed to emulate the atmosphere of the Valley of the Kings' burial passages, with dim and solemn lighting, the mummies of pharaohs and queens such as Ramses II, Seti I, and Hatshepsut are displayed in a climate-controlled environment, offering a rare opportunity to observe the true faces of pharaohs up close. It is recommended to first follow the chronological timeline in the main exhibition hall to establish an overall context before descending to the mummies hall for a closer look. If time permits, the nearby Coptic old town and the Amr Mosque built in the 7th century AD can also be combined with a visit to this museum.

A must-visit place in this lifetime. Compared to other places, there are far fewer scammers. Many ancient artifacts, including mummies, are on display. Tutankhamun's mask is inside the museum, but photography is not allowed. The enormous statues are truly awe-inspiring.

Some time ago, a good friend of mine advised me to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, so I went today, and it was a truly fantastic experience. First of all, it is a very modern space, large enough to showcase the full might of Egyptian civilization. All the exhibits are well-organized, allowing you to see everything in a very comfortable manner. The only thing that could be improved is the waiting area for people who arrive before the museum opens, as there is no comfortable space for them to wait, and they simply stand behind the fence along the road. I was among the people who arrived right before the opening at 8:30, and I spent more than four hours in the museum. After you are tired and have finished all the exhibitions, you can have lunch in one of the good restaurants inside near the main entrance.

It must be in everyone’s bucket list to visit those pyramids and the sphinx as the very mention of those gives vibes of ancient history/technology/civilization/pharos and a whole lot of mysteries surrounding that Giza Necropolis. Once thee the site doesn’t disappoint anyone as there is something for each one there. There are carious options for the visit depending upon your budget and schedule.

It was just a natural scenery, but it had an unreal beauty, flat and vast. I always lived in southern China and always thought that rivers came from valleys, magnificent or winding, with mountains on both sides, but the Nile River was still flat on both sides. I think there would be no Egypt without the Nile River. In such a hot and dry place that is not suitable for living, it should be this river that can pass through thousands of years without changing and keep people. Now, I have been away from Egypt for more than ten days. The most frequent flash in my memory is still the Nile River. Its beauty seems to allow anything to happen. I suddenly understand Agatha very much. If you face such a miracle every day, it is not surprising that you can write any story. Finally, I actually want to say that the Old Falls Hotel is worth staying (if the budget allows, but the afternoon tea is very bad, so be careful.

The oldest church in Egypt. Very important church, related to the history of the Christian faith in Egypt. The original foundations are from the Babylonian era. There is a glass floor that allows you to see the underside of the church floor. There are beautiful wooden window and door frames. Beautiful staircase. Worth going in and seeing it!

Советую бронировать гостиницу недалеко от пирамид и приезжать самостоятельно к открытию и пройти пешком по всей территории, это незабываемые впечатления и эмоции, а главное вас не будут торопить различные гиды и вы не будете постоянно ждать отстающих из вашей группы, будете только вы, пустыня и великолепные пирамиды!
