Reviews: Lion City Bike Tour of Singapore

A wonderful, slightly damp tour of downtown Singapore with Holden and about a dozen other folks from Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and China. We rode past a whole bunch of sights (too many to remember) including the Singapore Flyer, the F1 pit lane buildings, the Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion, the Supreme Court, the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, a Hawker center that is next to a road that is closed down at night because of the Satay lines, and the Sultan Mosque. We stopped for restrooms and drinks a couple of places and when we were in the little India area, we had Samosas and sugar cane drinks with ice. Very refreshing. Holden was a great tour guide and answered many questions with good humor and a smile. Pretty much anyone who can ride a bike can do this tour. It’s very flat and even though Singapore nearly nothing in the way of separated bike infrastructure, we had no issues just riding slowly on the sidewalk (pavement). Pedestrians are very accommodating.

This tour was easily one of the highlights of my trip to Singapore. Gerry was punctual, warm, and instantly made everyone feel at ease — it felt more like spending the day with a friend than a guide. As a solo traveler, I really appreciated his organization and thoughtfulness; I never once felt out of place. Our group was such a fun mix of people, and we laughed, ate, and learned our way through the city. The food was absolutely incredible — we tried everything from local favorites to hidden gems, and the drinks just kept coming! Along the way, Gerry shared so much about Singapore’s rich history and cultural diversity, and it made every bite even more meaningful. You definitely won’t leave this tour hungry — the pacing was perfect, with just enough time to enjoy every dish (and digest before the next one!). The vibe was relaxed, welcoming, and full of laughter — by the end, it felt like we’d spent the day with old friends. I’d recommend doing this tour early in your trip — Gerry gives great insight into how to use the MRT and subway, explains the different neighborhoods and hawker centres, and helps you feel confident exploring more on your own afterward. It’s the perfect start to experiencing Singapore’s incredible food culture.

It was a memorable experience for our 30th anniversary marriage when Cindy visited Singapore her first time while I was 26 years ago. The tour introduced many delicious local foods to her as well as refreshing me a lot I forgot. Overall, it is impressive to both of us:)
