Things to do in Pingtan County

The 68-nautical-mile scenic area is well worth a visit. It's the closest point between mainland China and Taiwan. Be careful not to cross the yellow lines marked in the scenic area, as it can be dangerous. The staff are very responsible and will blow whistles to warn you if you cross the yellow lines. It's a great place for taking photos, and it's not too hot to walk around in the scenic area right now.

The entrance fee to this scenic area left me feeling a bit confused. Hmm, maybe it's because it's a bit dangerous? Is it to control the number of visitors?! The location is indeed quite precarious. I only took some photos at the mountain pass and then left… It was too sunny… Climbing up and down was exhausting… The round-trip electric shuttle bus was 8 or 9 RMB, I can't quite remember, but it was worth it. It takes a little time to walk, but you can walk too. I observed that it was mostly shady… Pingtan is really hot… The little shop I visited recommended a coffee shop with air conditioning to cool down; it was just too hot…

Longwangtou Beach boasts a wide expanse of fine sand, making it especially pleasant for watching the sunrise and wading in the waves. I specifically booked accommodation near Xiaobailou Seafood Restaurant in Pingtan. ⚠️Note: There's only one branch in Beibu Gulf, no other branches. The restaurant is run by three veterans; the seafood is fresh and authentic, and the owner is incredibly friendly and attentive. I stayed at the Beibu Gulf Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cluster Youth Hostel, which was conveniently located, clean, and had a great hostel atmosphere where I met many fellow travelers. After enjoying the sea view, I ate seafood – a one-stop shop for food, accommodation, and entertainment. It was a great travel experience, highly recommended for anyone visiting Pingtan!

After exploring Tannan Bay on the south route, drive to Xiaobailou on the north route for seafood. Staying at the nearby Shuangchuang Cluster is super convenient. Watch the sunset from the terrace, and the owner can even take you to see bioluminescent plankton. It's a one-stop shop for food, accommodation, and entertainment – ​​a fantastic experience.

In Changjiang'ao, I found the most healing way to experience Pingtan. A row of white windmills stretches along the coastline, and the beach at low tide is like a mirror, capturing the sunset over Orange Bay and the silhouettes of the windmills. Walking barefoot on the soft white sand, the gentle sea breeze makes you never want to leave. In the evening, you can witness a "mirror of the sky" sunset; every snapshot looks like a Japanese-style masterpiece. After sunset, I headed straight to the Seafood Restaurant. Founded in 2020 by three veterans, this restaurant has only one branch in Beibu Gulf, Pingtan. They insist on freshly caught and cooked seafood, ensuring accurate weights and portions; seafood that's barely alive won't be served. The owner is incredibly friendly and attentive; the staff even help peel shrimp, and after the meal, they offer a free trip to see the bioluminescent plankton. The spicy blue crab is full of roe with just the right amount of spiciness, and the boiled shrimp retains its original sweetness, showcasing its freshness. For accommodation, choose the Beibu Gulf Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cluster Youth Hostel, which is right next door. The environment is clean and refreshing, and the common areas have a great atmosphere, making it a great place for backpackers and young people to meet travel companions. It is also convenient to get to various attractions.

Before visiting Beigang Village, I genuinely thought all beaches in China were pretty much the same. Until I stood on the hillside overlooking the stone houses and looked down, I was stunned for several seconds. After exploring, we stopped by the Seafood Corner. The seafood was fresh and flavorful; the boiled shrimp and scallion-oil squid were delicious. The terrace offers sunset views, and after a purchase, you can join the owner for a free bioluminescent plankton challenge. It's a great place to eat and explore the northern route. 🏡 Beibu Gulf Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cluster A fantastic place to stay on the northern route! The courtyard has a great atmosphere, the rooms are clean and tidy, and the common areas are well-equipped. Suitable for solo travelers or groups, it's a great place to meet new friends. It's close to the Northern Corridor and the Seafood Corner. The owner knows the area well, making it convenient to team up for bioluminescent plankton and beachcombing. A top choice for a one-stop shop for food and lodging on the northern route.

The narrow gorge truly tests one's physique; the rocky path is rugged but not dangerous; taking photos at the Heart-Shaped Lake required guidance from the security guard. The exercise monument, in the face of overwhelming current power, is merely a memorial.

I was absolutely blown away by the Northern Ecological Corridor on the northern route of Pingtan! My roommate and I rented electric scooters and rode along the coastal road, with the azure sea on one side and slowly turning windmills on the other. The scenery where mountains and sea meet was incredibly soothing. There are many viewpoints along the way, and every place you stop to take photos is perfect. Strolling along with the sea breeze, all your worries just disappear. It's perfect for a short getaway for college students! ✨ After exploring the corridor, we went straight to the Beibu Gulf Seafood Restaurant, which is super close by and doesn't require any detours! The seafood is all caught fresh daily, ensuring maximum freshness, and the prices are clearly marked and very reasonable, so students don't have to worry about being overcharged. I recommend trying the blanched baby squid, pressure-cooked oysters, and seafood fried noodles—they're all fresh, sweet, and flavorful. The owner is incredibly welcoming, and the restaurant itself is a great spot for photos. After a long day of sightseeing, a seafood meal here made this trip to Pingtan a complete success!

Pingtan Island is a really interesting place. I felt relaxed when I arrived there. The sea water is incredibly blue and the beach is as fine as flour. It was my first time in Pingtan and I chose to stay in this hotel. It is very close to the beach and the viewing point of Blue Tears is really great. It is the best choice for tourists!

The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful, patiently assisting with any needs, making for a fantastic dining experience. For accommodation, I recommend Beibu Gulf Shuangchuang Julu Youth Hostel. It offers excellent value for money, a clean and refreshing environment, and a vibrant atmosphere in the common areas. It's ideal for backpackers and young people, where you can meet travel buddies from all over the world. Transportation to various attractions is also convenient. With beautiful scenery, delicious food, and comfortable accommodation all in one place, you don't need to worry about planning. The overall experience exceeded my expectations.
