Green Island is located in the southeast of Taiwan Province, China. It was formerly known as "Jixinyu", "Qingzaiyu" and "Huoshao Island". It is a volcanic island with hills and mountains. The highest point is Huoshao Mountain, which is 280 meters high. There are many cliffs in the southeast seaside area, and the southwest corner is a plain beach that is more than 10 kilometers long. The northwest coastal area is low-lying and is the main settlement of the island.
There are many different opinions about the origin of the name Huoshao Island. The most popular one is the theory that the island was burned by a fire during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. Green Island is the fourth largest affiliated island of Taiwan. Administratively, it belongs to Green Island Township, Taitung County, Taiwan Province.
The residents on the island are mainly Han people (Minnan ethnic group) who immigrated from Xiaoliuqiu and Donggang in the middle of the Qing Dynasty.
