The Bund

4.8/5
157.1k reviews
The Bund is located along the Huangpu River, stretching approx. 1.5 km in length. As a symbolic attraction of Shanghai, it features a diverse collection of international architectural styles and the stunning night view of the Huangpu River as its highlights. The Bund stands with dozens of classical revival buildings in diverse styles, including the renowned Bank of China building, Shanghai Peace Hotel, Customs House, and HSBC building, recreating the former glory of the "Wall Street of the Far East." Surprisingly, these structures were neither designed by the same architect nor built in the same period, yet they possess a unique harmonious beauty. The Bund showcases various architectural styles, such as French classical, French chateau, and Gothic, which are significant historical sites and representative buildings of modern China, forming a stunning scenic line along the Huangpu River. As night falls, the neon lights on both banks illuminate the sky. Board a Huangpu River cruise or ferry and glide along the river, feeling the gentle breeze. On one side is The Bund, a witness to historical development, while on the other stands Lujiazui, Shanghai's modern landmark. The graceful silhouette of Waibaidu Bridge offers a fresh perspective to admire the beauty of this vibrant metropolis.Shanghai · 1.8 km from downtown

Yu Garden

4.7/5
55.9k reviews
Yu garden is located in the northeast of Shanghai yu garden tourist business district, adjacent to Shanghai chenghuangmiao and Shanghai yu garden tourist mall. It is a renowned classical Jiangnan-style garden and a famous scenic spot both domestically and internationally. In 1982, it was approved as a "national key cultural relics protection unit". Yu Garden was first built during the Jiajing and Wanli periods of the Ming Dynasty, with a history of over 450 years. The garden's owner, Pan Yunduan, once served as the provincial administration commissioner of Sichuan. To allow his father to enjoy his later years, Pan Yunduan began from 1559 (the Jihai year of Jiajing reign) to transform his family's vegetable field by gathering stones, digging ponds, constructing pavilions, and planting bamboo to create a garden. After more than 20 years of meticulous effort, Yu Garden was completed. The character "Yu" carries the meanings of "peace" and "tranquility," and the name "Yu Garden" embodies the wish to "delight one's elderly parents." When first constructed, Yu Garden covered over 70 mu of land and was meticulously designed by Zhang Nanyang, a renowned garden architect of the Ming Dynasty, who personally oversaw its construction. The entire garden features grand scale and exquisite scenery. The current Yu Garden covers an area of 2 hectares, featuring staggered pavilions, rugged rocks, lush trees, and exquisite craftsmanship that reveals grandeur in miniature. It showcases the artistic style of Jiangnan garden architecture during the Ming and Qing dynasties with its serene beauty and delicate details. Yu garden still preserves historical sites such as the "library building" - the birthplace of Shanghai-style painting and calligraphy, and the "dianchun hall" in yu garden which served as the headquarters of the Shanghai small sword society uprising. Ancient scholars praised yu garden with accolades like "peerless beauty in the southeast" and "the crown of southeastern gardens". Many domestic and foreign political leaders and celebrities have visited Yu Garden, making it a rare traditional cultural landmark in Shanghai.Shanghai · 1.8 km from downtown

I highly recommend everyone to experience the night cruise on the Huangpu River. Thanks to Manager Zhang for helping with the photos and for the friendly chat. It was a very pleasant experience. By the way, friends, upgrading to a cabin for an extra 100 RMB is totally worth it!

It's indeed very large, with many attractions and a great environment, more fun than Hong Kong Disneyland! However, it's too expensive during holidays and too crowded, resulting in a less than ideal experience. Also, the actors' professionalism lags behind that of Hong Kong and American Disneyland; their performances are somewhat stiff, and the plot is a bit lacking. It doesn't seem to be as considerate of children.

Good food and a fun experience, but more of a digital showOverall, I think it was a good experience. The food quality was good, and the portions were generous enough to be filling. Everything we had was delicious and well-presented.That said, I felt the performance aspect was slightly lacking. It relies quite heavily on digital effects and projections rather than live human performances. So, in a way, it felt more like having dinner inside a 3D movie theatre than watching a traditional live show. The location is another plus. It’s conveniently located near The Bund and Nanjing Pedestrian Street, so it’s easy to include this as an ending destination after spending the day walking around the area.Overall, I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a combination of dinner + visual entertainment, but go in expecting more of a digital immersive experience rather than a live performance.

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park is a great place for families and young people to visit, where you can encounter a variety of marine creatures. You can see adorable pufferfish, schools of fish, and observe the fine textures of starfish up close. The underwater volcano sculptures are also very atmospheric and perfect for taking photos.

The Shanghai LEGO theme park is one year old, featuring ① a weekend drone show and ② limited-edition cultural and creative products. I bought an afternoon ticket and entered—the dopamine rush was the most I've ever experienced in a theme park: I listened to plaza music, watched the drone show, rode a LEGO horse, took a ferry, built with LEGO bricks, climbed the observation deck… a really great experience. Very therapeutic and vibrant!

I was surprised by how well the animals were cared for! As a European, I’ve seen how in some countries, animals in zoos are kept in rather small enclosures, and some of them seem stressed or bored based on their body language. I’ve noticed this in a few European countries as well as in Indonesia. But at this place, the animals had appropriately sized habitats, and some animals were even allowed to roam freely in their own areas without fences, yet they still stayed within their designated areas! The animals also looked healthy, which I really liked. It was an absolutely amazing experience. If you want to feed the predators, you have to purchase a separate ticket on-site. I had bought my ticket through this app and thought feeding was included in the price, but it didn’t matter—I simply bought the additional ticket at the location so I could feed them. So, if you’re taking the bus to the predator area through this app, feeding is not included in the ticket. What an amazing place!

Tickets are 180 RMB for adults, and the photo service isn't free. The Duoyun Academy next door offers better value, but most tourists don't know about it; it's just more expensive, after all, it's China's tallest building!

A one-day ticket is generally enough. The park is very large, and the overall experience of the rides, parades, and fireworks is quite good, with a strong atmosphere. It's recommended to download the official app in advance to check queue times and show schedules. Try to ride the popular rides early in the morning, as you'll be walking a lot throughout the day, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. It's definitely worth experiencing if it's your first time at Shanghai Disneyland.
