Stretching from Erdao Bridge in Putou Town, Li County to Chenmazi Bridge in Jiesi Valley, Xiaojin County, the 94.874-kilometer Li Xiao Road is a scenic self-driving route. Situated at the junction of Miyaluo Provincial Nature Reserve and Mt. Siguniang Nature Reserve, this highway traverses alpine ecological zones between 2,000–3,600 meters above sea level. Connecting renowned attractions like Bipenggou, Jiesi Glacier, and Mt. Siguniang, it showcases classic Western Sichuan landscapes—snow-capped mountains, forests, valleys, glaciers, and meadows—making it a breathtaking mountain-view highway with spectacular scenery along the way. The opening of Li Xiao Road has ended the past where neighboring counties Lixian and Xiaojin were adjacent yet disconnected, and eliminated the need for detours through Wenchuan or Barkam that added hundreds of kilometers to journeys between them. More than just seamlessly linking two major scenic areas—Miyaluo and Mt. Siguniang—this highway also provides access to previously hard-to-reach hidden gems nestled among snow-capped peaks, including Liangtaigou Valley, Jiesi Glacier, and Da'erpu. Li Xiao Road is located 200 km from Chengdu at a comfortable elevation, offering a pleasant self-driving experience. Along the way, visitors can admire breathtaking snow-capped mountains, grasslands, canyons, rivers, and vibrant forests, with each season presenting its own unique scenery. In May and June, wildflowers blanket the hills, while July and August bring lush greenery. Autumn and winter transform the landscape with colorful foliage and snow-covered vistas, providing a perfect journey for visitors to connect with nature and rejuvenate their spirits.Xiaojin · 17.3 km from downtown

The sightseeing bus route is well-planned, the bus schedule is excellent, and each bus is equipped with a tour guide who provides explanations as you go. The personalized service is superb, and it truly lives up to its reputation as a national 5A scenic spot, well worth a visit.

Maobiliang is a viewing point on the road along the Sichuan West Loop. From here, as long as the weather is good, you can see the whole picture of Siguniang Mountain, especially the highest peak, Simei Peak, which is the second highest peak in western Sichuan. The snow on the top of the mountain never melts all year round. The surrounding mountains are also very beautiful when viewed from the viewing point!

Avoid horseback riding at all costs! Avoid horseback riding at all costs! Avoid horseback riding at all costs! I booked a round-trip horseback ride to Huahaizi for 720 yuan, but on the way there, the driver at the pick-up point refused to take me! He said he didn't want to go anymore. Later I found out he went to pick up hikers coming down from Dafeng in the early morning and ripped them off! I was speechless! So here's my very honest advice for anyone going to Haizigou: 1. Don't ride a horse. If you want to ride, only go as far as Chaotianping. Don't go any further. First, you're likely to get ripped off, and second, the scenery is best at Chaotianping. Go as far as Shiban Re, and the Dahaizi area is really not worth it; it's quite ordinary. Huahaizi is just a ditch unless it's in bloom. Anyone who goes there is a huge waste of 20km of boring mountain trails. Anyone who rides a horse is a fool who gets ripped off by the horsemen. (Attached photos: the first two are of Chaotianping, the last two are of the endless, muddy horse trail beyond Chaotianping, and Dahaizi, which is only 20km further on the round trip.) 🙂

Autumn in Ganzi and Aba is truly breathtaking, with the snow-capped mountains, colorful forests, and lakes being incredibly beautiful. It's essential to travel during off-peak seasons. The Majiagou Scenic Area, if you don't take the longest route to Dawa Yongcuo (Moon Lake), only takes 4.5 hours round trip. The four lakes along the way leading to Qumei Lake are already a fairyland. I recommend entering the scenic area in the morning to see the sunlight reflecting on the lake, creating a shimmering landscape of snow-capped mountains and sparkling waters. The altitude of the scenic area isn't high, but mild altitude sickness may occur, so walk slowly and breathe gently. The temperature difference can be significant, so consider layering your clothing accordingly. It's pet-friendly; you'll see many tourists with their adorable furry friends, which is incredibly heartwarming. I highly recommend the two-day Chengdu-Changlie Temple-Majiagou route. It's suitable for families with children and offers a truly wonderful trip.

Mount Siguniang, known as the "Queen of Sichuan Mountains," is a must-see snow-capped mountain paradise in western Sichuan. Shuangqiao Valley offers a relaxing sightseeing bus tour, with redwood forests, meadows, and lakes unfolding in succession, the lakes reflecting the snow-capped peaks – every view is a masterpiece. Changping Valley is perfect for hiking, offering close-up views of Yaomei Peak, accompanied by forest streams and a truly immersive mountain atmosphere. Plateau weather is unpredictable, with significant temperature differences between day and night; be sure to dress warmly and be aware of altitude sickness. The harmonious blend of snow-capped mountains, meadows, and forests offers both magnificent landscapes and soothing wilderness scenery – a place you'll never forget.
