Hekou Old Street

125 reviews
Hekou Town, where the county seat of Qianshan is located, was once one of the four famous towns in Jiangxi in history. In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was called "Shawan City". During the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, the handicraft industry developed here, and the waterway leads directly to Poyang Lake. In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the Hekou entered its heyday, and goods such as Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui, Ganchuan, Guangjingsu, etc. were collected and distributed here, and were resold all over the country, becoming the "eight-province thoroughfare" where merchants gathered. Today, it still retains the imprint of the old bustling and quaint style. The five-meter-long ancient streets of Ming and Qing Dynasties along the river are ancient and elegant. The small river in the town twists and turns, and the bluestone bridges span the two banks, adding to the town's water town atmosphere. On the stele along the pier along the river, the handwriting is clearly visible, which recalls the prosperity of "goods gathered in eight Fujian, Sichuan and Guangxi, mixed with two Zhejiang Huaiyang, boats moored at night, and lights around the shore".Yanshan · 424m from downtown

Wuyishan National Park

Wuyishan National Park is located in the northern section of the Wuyishan mountain range in northwestern Fujian, stretching across the border area between Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. It is one of China's first established national parks, and Wuyishan itself was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for both culture and nature as early as 1999. The park was formed by integrating the former Wuyishan National Nature Reserve and Wuyishan Scenic Area: the Tongmu area in the north focuses on ecological conservation and scientific research, preserving a rare intact mid-subtropical forest ecosystem at this latitude. The main peak of the Wuyishan range, Mount Huanggang, is also located here, and this core area does not offer regular tourism activities. Sightseeing activities are concentrated in the scenic areas along both banks of the Nine-bend Stream, namely the four major sections: Tianyou Peak to Taoyuan Cave, Nine-bend Stream to Wuyi Palace, One-line Sky to Tiger Roaring Rock, and Dahongpao to Water Curtain Cave. The attractions in the scenic area are relatively scattered with considerable distance between them. A leisurely visit typically requires two to three days. If you only have one day, start by ascending Tianyou Peak for a panoramic view of the emerald waters and crimson mountains along the Nine-bend Stream, then take a bamboo raft downstream from Xingcun Wharf. Along the way, you'll pass landmarks like Jade Maiden Peak, Great King Peak, cliff inscriptions, and suspended boat coffins. The rafting journey ends at Wuyi Palace, making it an ideal classic route. Tea enthusiasts may prefer spending time on the leisurely Rock Bone Floral Trail between Dahongpao and Water Curtain Cave. This gentle path connects core Wuyi rock tea production areas like Liuxiangjian and Huiyuankeng, offering a uniquely fragrant experience. With two days, you can cover all four major sections. For more time, consider visiting the ancient tea merchants' residences in Xiamei Village, the starting point of the ancient Tea Horse Road, or exploring the ruins of the Minyue King's City near Chengcun Village—the latter also being part of Wuyishan's world heritage site. Bamboo rafting is very popular, so please make arrangements in advance during peak season. To get close to the ecological heart of the park, you can take the Wuyishan National Park No. 1 scenic route. Places like Moon Bay and Qinglong Waterfall are suitable for self-drive or private charter. As for food, street snacks like flat meat dumplings and Vietnamese noodles are common, while Langu smoked goose and local dishes cooked with alpine bamboo shoots and mushrooms are also worth trying.Wuyishan · 77.3 km from Yanshan

Xianrenzhai is also known as Zhaishang, meaning the village on the mountain. Because the light is beautiful, the weather is quiet and serene, like a fairyland, hence the name Xianrenzhai. It is a rural eco-tourism scenic spot with an ancient cottage style in the south of the Yangtze River; Giant Elephant Rock, Shima Mountain, Changshi Mountain, and Ape-Man Peak are arranged in a row. The hanging coffins of the cliff tombs are confusing, the treasures of the heaven are mysterious and attractive, the ancient post road is close to the mountains, the ecology is primitive, and the culture is unique.Yanshan · 24.2 km from downtown

The ancient city of Huizhou is located in Shexian County.LianjiangNorth Bank, originally built in the Qin Dynasty, became the seat of the ancient Huizhou Prefecture after the Tang Dynasty. Tang Xianzu's line, "My life's most cherished dream, yet I never dreamt of Huizhou," has captivated countless hearts. The city gates, archways, and the unique prefectural government offices still allow visitors to experience the ancient charm.Huizhou PrefectureThe legacy of the past. There are several roads leading into the ancient city, and it doesn't really matter which road you choose. The ancient city isn't very big; you can visit all the main attractions by walking around. It's near Renhe Tower in the north.Huiyuan GardenTicket offices are available at both the Nanqiao Tower and the Duojingyuan visitors Center outside the southern barbican. Among the several city gates of Huizhou Ancient City, the Nanqiao Tower is quite unique, with 13 pairs of pillars forming the gate frame, arranged in a row inside the gate opening to support the tower. It is said that this "row of pillars" is the authentic city gate style of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Xu Guo Stone Archway, located inside the East Watchtower (Yanghe Gate), is the essence of the entire ancient city, built in the twelfth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1584 AD). The archway has eight pillars, with a cross-section shaped like the Chinese character "口" (kou), creating a three-dimensional structure. Both the four exterior and four interior sides can be viewed. Twelve stone lions guard the base of the pillars, and the upper part features exquisite stone carvings. Currently, this is the only ancient archway of its kind, highlighting the distinguished status of its owner, Xu Guo, a veteran of three reigns. Many attractions in the ancient city radiate from the Xu Guo Stone Archway. To the west, you can visit the Huizhou Prefectural Government Office, a modern reconstruction modeled after the Ming Dynasty government office; to the east, you can visit the memorial hall of Tao Xingzhi, a native of Shexian County; and to the north, you can visit...Huiyuan Garden, butHuiyuan GardenThe area is filled with antique-style buildings. Doushan Street, located in the northeast of the ancient city, brings together Hui-style ancient residences, archways, and ancient wells. Strolling along the ancient street paved with bluestone slabs and cobblestones is a truly delightful experience. Leaving the ancient city from the barbican, cross the "Taiping Bridge," a stone bridge built during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, and you will arrive at...LianjiangSouth bank, here isTaibai TowerHe Xin'an Stele Garden.Taibai TowerBuilt to commemorate Li Bai, the Xin'an Stele Garden houses the Ming Dynasty calligraphic works *Yu Qingzhai Tie* and *Qingjiantang Tie*, which are worth visiting for calligraphy visitors. Along...LianjiangHeading east, the Changqing Temple Pagoda, built in the second year of the Xuanhe era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1119 AD), is rarely visited. However, it offers a truly unexpected surprise to visitors who get close: each layer of the outer pagoda has colorful murals, which have become blurred over the years and cannot be seen from a distance. The last attraction, Yuliang Scenic attraction, is located 2 kilometers east of the ancient city. The entrance is at...LianjiangThe north bank is the only way to get back to the north bank after visiting Changqing Temple Pagoda; if you're coming from the south bank, you'll need to cross Taiping Bridge again.Yuliang DamYou have to go around to Ziyang Bridge to cross the river. When you reach the dam, remember to look for the small stone slabs, called "ingot locks," embedded horizontally between the long stone slabs; these help stabilize the dam. Also, look for the sluice gate in the center of the dam for drainage. If you'd like to take a ride on one of the locals' small boats along the shore...LianjiangThe price is negotiable. Residents still live on Yuliang Old Street on the north bank, and as always, they hang their bedsheets to dry in front of the ancient buildings; time seems to stand still here. The ancient city is lit up at night, offering stunning night views. "Three Lanes and Seven Alleys" is located in the heart of Fuzhou, collectively referring to ten historic lanes and alleys lining both sides of Nanhou Street from north to south. The "three lanes" are: Shuixie Stage, Wenru Lane, and Guanglu Lane. The "seven alleys" are: Yangqiao Alley, Langguan Alley, Anmin Alley, Huang Alley, Ta Alley, Gong Alley, and Jibi Alley. "Who would have thought the recluse of Five Willows and Lone Pine would dwell amidst Three Lanes and Seven Alleys?" This entire ancient residential quarter, first built during the Ming Dynasty, has been remarkably preserved through centuries of history spanning both Ming and Qing dynasties. The neighborhood houses former residences of numerous historical figures and even features a folk culture museum. As the saying goes, to understand a city, you don't need to traverse every street—just stroll down one historic lane at a leisurely pace. Located on the Golden Mountain on the south bank of Xinjiang River in Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, it is one of the four ancient academies in Jiangxi. Founded in the 33rd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1694), it was formerly known as Qujiang Academy. In the eighth year of Qianlong's reign (1743), a building was built in Houshan to worship Zhu Xi, and the name was changed to "Ziyang Academy". In the forty-sixth year of Qianlong (1781), it was called "Xinjiang Academy". The courtyard is surrounded by greenery, and the four-cornered Kuixing Pavilion standing on the Zhongling Terrace is carved with beams and painted buildings, with flower windows and blue tiles, and it is antique. Climbing the pavilion can overlook the Xinjiang River and the Lingshan Mountain in the distance, giving people a good enjoyment. In front of Zhongling Terrace, there are still ancient buildings such as Chunfeng Pavilion, Yida Pavilion, Xixiu Pavilion, and Rixin Bookstore. Although the Yile Hall has been destroyed, the stone tablet and rockery in front of the hall are still intact.Shangrao · 29.2 km from Yanshan

It consists of Yibao Street, Erbao Street, Qipan Street, Sanbao Street on the east end and Banbian Street on the west end. There are more than 500 shops preserved on both sides from Yibao to Sanbao. Today, it still retains the marks of the prosperity of the old times and the quaint style. On the 500-meter-long Ming and Qing ancient street along the river, the buildings are endless and lined up, exuding an ancient and elegant temperament; Qing

The Huizhou Prefectural Government Office truly lives up to its reputation as the core government office of ancient Huizhou. Restored to its original site according to Ming Dynasty regulations, its central axis layout is orderly and solemn, with the ceremonial gate, main hall, and second hall unfolding in sequence, showcasing the grandeur of an ancient government office. The exquisite Hui-style wooden structure and intricate carvings add to its charm. Visitors can also watch live court performances, gaining a direct experience of the ancient government office system. The office exudes a rich historical atmosphere, making it more than just a place for taking photos; it's a perfect opportunity to quietly appreciate the cultural heritage of Huizhou and a must-see cultural highlight in the ancient city of Huizhou.

When visiting Fuzhou, a leisurely stroll through the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys is a must. Walking on the cool cobblestone streets, looking up at the staggered saddle-shaped walls, white walls and gray tiles, you'll see the quintessential old Fuzhou. No need to rush to see the must-see spots; just wander into any alley, and you'll find ancient houses and courtyards brimming with stories. The streets are bustling with the aroma of everyday life—meat dumplings, fish balls, and peanut soup fill the air—a truly blissful experience as you stroll and savor the delicious treats.

We took a carpool from Wangxian Valley B&B to go there directly. This is a new museum near the Citizen Park. It has three floors. The first floor is two temporary exhibition halls. The second floor is the first and second exhibition halls. The third floor is the third and fourth exhibition halls. The second floor is a hot-blooded monument that tells the red history of Shangrao, as well as the style of the B&B. The whole museum is not big. There are a total of 6 temporary exhibition halls. It takes one and a half to two hours to walk through.

They are carved with beams and painted with rafters, and their shapes are simple. They are hidden among the dense green trees and are particularly elegant and unique. On the former site of Yiletang in the northeast of the academy, the "Shangrao Special District Revolutionary Martyrs Monument" and the "Huang Dao Martyrs' Tomb" were built after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
