Dongshan Island

Qing'ao Bay

Sufeng Mountain
Sufeng Mountain towers over the eastern part of Dongshan Island in Zhangzhou. It is the island's main peak, with an elevation of over 270 m, and was historically known asDongshan or Chuanling Mountain. The mountain rises sharply from the coast, with lush forests on one side and the blue East China Sea on the other. Where the mountain meets the sea, it is a great place on the island to climb high and view the ocean. What makes this mountain famous is the island-loop road built around it. The road winds for over 8 km along the mountainside, connecting several observation decks. One of the most expansive viewpoints offers a simultaneous view of four bays: Jinluan Bay, Maluanwan, Yunan Bay, and Nanmen Bay. The iconic blue bridge section, which winds around the mountainside like a ribbon and sweeps across the cliff face, is known as the "Internet-famous bridge." It is a highly recognizable scene on Dongshan Island and has been featured in many film and television works. The route is also dotted with temples such as Sufeng Temple and theMazu Temple. Legend has it that the last emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty built the "Chuanling Imperial Palace" in the mountains, and the current Sufeng Temple was rebuilt on the site of that palace. Yanya Ancient Village at the northern foot of the mountain retains the original style of a fishing village, and the "Yanya Lovers" reef next to the village is a popular photo spot. When visiting, you can cycle or take a sightseeing bus along the island-loop road for a leisurely tour, or hike along the walking trails to take a closer look at the cliff scenery where the mountain meets the sea.
