Baoqing Temple (South Gate)

Baoqing Temple is located on the north bank of Qinglindu by the Yaojiang River in Zhuangqiao, Ningbo City. According to local chronicles, Baoqing Temple was built in the second year of Duangong in the Northern Song Dynasty (989), and was built by Zen Master Zongben. During the Kaixi Year of the Southern Song Dynasty (1205-1207), the temple monk Guangqing carried out a large-scale expansion and petitioned the court. In the fifteenth year of Jiading (1222), Song Ningzong gave the name "Baoqing Lecture Temple", and invited Wang Yinglin, the elder of the three dynasties, a generation of great Confucianism, and the Minister of Rites, to write "Baoqing Lecture Temple". When the newly built Guanyin Hall was completed, another great scholar, Huang Zhen, was invited to write "Baoqing Lectures on the Guanyin Hall of the Temple", all of which were erected in the temple. The reconstructed Daxiong Hall is majestic and solemn, with a heavy tower and a mountain resting on the mountain; there is a "singing cage roof" caisson in the middle of the hall, which is rare in the Buddhist temples in eastern Zhejiang. There is a jade Buddha with a net height of 3.8 meters in the main hall. The newly built Jade Buddha Hall, Patriarch Hall, Jialan Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, new mountain gate, Bell and Drum Tower, Free Life Pond and four antique wing houses make the Buddhist temple more scale and become a grand view of the jungle.
