The German Cathedral is located in Gendarmenmarkt. In fact, the official name should be the New Church of Berlin. The Cathedral is a common name. The church was built in 1705 and was later remodeled in 1785 with the construction of a domed tower. The German Cathedral was completely destroyed in World War II and was later rebuilt between 1977 and 1988. It reopened in 1996 as a museum exhibiting German history.
