Some trips are all about the destination, but the ones that truly touch your heart are defined by the scenery along the way. Setting off from Sydney for the Australian capital, Canberra, I expected a standard city-to-city drive. Instead, the endless blue skies, rolling pastures, grazing livestock, and serene lakes turned this road trip into a healing journey through nature. 🌿 📍 Stop 1: Goulburn – Soaking Up Small-Town Vibes Heading south along the Hume Highway, past the Southern Highlands, the bustle of Sydney fades as the landscape opens up. Goulburn, a charming country town, is the perfect pit stop. It’s a place to escape the rush and embrace a simpler, slower pace. Grabbing a coffee and stretching your legs here sets the perfect rhythm for the drive. 🌊 Stop 2: Lake George – A Breathtaking Surprise As you hit the Federal Highway, you’ll come across Lake George. It’s one of those unexpected views that catches you off guard! The lake mirrors the sky, framed by rolling green hills and drifting clouds. It’s not a manicured beauty, but something vast and raw. Looking out the window, you feel time itself start to slow down. Interestingly, the water level changes with the seasons; sometimes it’s a wide expanse of water, and other times it looks like a massive grassy plain. 🐑 Stop 3: Pastoral Romance – Cattle and Sheep Everywhere I’ll take the Australian countryside over city skylines any day. Outside the window, infinite farms stretch out in shades of green and gold. Cattle graze peacefully while sheep dot the hillsides. You’ll see rustic fences, lone farmhouses, and mountains in the distance. With the blue sky above and the vast earth below, everything feels beautifully unrefined. No tourists, no noisy shops—just the sun, the breeze, and the quiet life of animals. It reminds you that travel isn't about ticking off attractions. Simply moving along a path you love and stopping to admire the view is enough. ☀️ 🚗 Sydney to Canberra Road Trip Guide 📍 Route: Sydney → Hume Highway (M31) → Goulburn → Federal Highway (M23) → Canberra 📏 Distance: Approx. 280–290 km ⏰ Drive Time: Roughly 3 hours (excluding stops) 🛣️ Road Conditions: Mostly paved, divided highways. It’s an easy drive. Use navigation to merge onto the M31 from Sydney, then switch to the M23. 🚘 Speed Limits: Up to 110 km/h on highways, but look out for changes in towns and construction zones. ⚠️ Safety Tips: Watch for wildlife at dawn and dusk. Be aware of crosswinds near Lake George. Don't get distracted by the views while driving! ✨ The Biggest Takeaway I used to think road trips were just about the freedom to reach a destination. Now I realize the magic is in the rhythm—meeting the scenes that aren't on your itinerary. A passing cloud, a flock of sheep, a quiet town, or a stretch of road by the lake—these become the most enduring memories. If you’re planning the drive from Sydney to Canberra, slow down. Don’t just see the road as the space between two points; make it part of the adventure. Because sometimes, the best scenery isn't at the finish line—it’s out there on the open road. 💙

Zen Oasis is tucked away near Berrima, and its food is a lovely surprise. It is best known for its Asian vegetarian and vegan cuisine, especially the variety of yum cha dishes. The colourful dumplings and steamed buns caught our eye straight away, and we also enjoyed the crispy rolls, a warming soup, sizzling noodles and a generous mushroom and vegetable dish. There was plenty to choose from, with different flavours and textures across the meal. The setting is another reason to visit. The restaurant feels peaceful and secluded, and you can stroll through the gardens and around the ornamental lake after lunch. It makes the meal feel like a little outing in the Southern Highlands. Zen Oasis is at 230 Medway Road, Medway, near Berrima. It is a great choice for a relaxed weekend lunch, whether you are vegetarian or simply curious to try something different. Book ahead and allow time to explore the grounds.

My visit to Bowral, New South Wales, during autumn felt like stepping into a landscape painted in every shade of the season. Crimson red, fiery orange, golden yellow, and warm amber leaves covered the trees, turning the quiet countryside into something truly magical. 🍁✨ I loved wandering along these peaceful roads, surrounded by towering trees and carpets of fallen leaves. The soft sunlight filtering through the colorful canopy made every turn feel like a perfect autumn postcard. There was something beautifully calming about the whole scene—the quiet road, the crisp seasonal atmosphere, and nature putting on its annual display of color. A little piece of Australian autumn that made the journey especially memorable. 🍂💛 #FallColors #Bowral #NewSouthWales #Australia #AutumnInAustralia #AutumnColors #AustralianAutumn #SouthernHighlands #BowralNSW #FallFoliage #AutumnVibes #NatureLovers #AustraliaTravel #TravelMemories #Wanderlust #fallcolors

One of my favourite little escapes from Sydney was Canyonleigh Retreat in the Southern Highlands. What I loved about this place wasn't just the room — it was how peaceful the whole property felt. 🌅 Sunset from the balcony This was probably my favourite part of the stay. In the evening I could just sit outside on the balcony and watch the sky slowly change colour over the countryside. No need to drive anywhere to find a sunset spot — it was literally right outside the room. After living in Sydney, sometimes having nothing around you except trees, open space and a sunset is exactly what you need. 🥾 A private forest walk This was another surprise. The retreat sits on a huge property with its own native forest, and there's a 6.5 km hiking trail you can explore. We did the forest loop and it really felt like we had the bush to ourselves. It's not a manicured tourist attraction — you're walking along quiet tracks surrounded by Australian bushland. For someone like me who loves walking and hiking, having a trail right where I'm staying is a huge bonus. 💜 The gardens Around the accommodation there are beautiful gardens as well. I especially loved all the lavender — it made the property look so pretty. Canyonleigh is also a working eco-retreat, with its own vegetable and market gardens and seasonal produce grown on the property. 🛏️ The stay The accommodation itself was comfortable and peaceful, but I think the surroundings are what make Canyonleigh Retreat special. Wake up surrounded by nature, go for a walk through the forest, wander around the gardens and then come back to the balcony for sunset. It felt much more like a little countryside escape than simply staying in a hotel. 📍 Canyonleigh Retreat 2400 Canyonleigh Road, Canyonleigh NSW 2577 🌿 Southern Highlands, NSW 🥾 6.5 km forest hiking trail 🌳 500-acre property 🌱 Working gardens and seasonal produce 🌅 My favourite: relaxing outside and watching the sunset If you're looking for a quiet Southern Highlands escape where you can slow down and spend some time in nature, this is one I'd happily recommend. #natureretreat #retreat #travel #naturalwonders #couplestrip #thingstodo #staycation #myitinerary #australiatrip #newsouthwales #traveladdict

Sydney feels like one of those cities where you don’t need to rush. 🌊☕ Walk along the harbour, stop for a good coffee, explore a weekend market and end the day watching the sunset by the water. Here’s my little Sydney guide for anyone planning a first visit! 💙 📍 Sydney City Walk Sydney Opera House → Royal Botanic Garden → Circular Quay → The Rocks → Sydney Harbour Bridge → Millers Point → Barangaroo Take your time along this route — there are plenty of beautiful harbour views and photo spots along the way. 📸 ☕ Coffee Stops to Explore Sydney has such a strong coffee culture, so café hopping definitely deserves a spot in the itinerary. From specialty coffee shops to beautiful brunch cafés, it’s easy to turn a normal morning into a mini coffee city walk. 🛍️ Markets Worth Exploring The Rocks Markets for the harbour atmosphere, Paddy’s Markets for souvenirs and local finds, Bondi Markets for beach vibes, Glebe Markets for vintage treasures, and Carriageworks Farmers Market for a slower local morning. 🚗 Easy Escapes from Sydney If you have extra days, consider exploring the Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Bowral or Jervis Bay. Each gives you a completely different side of New South Wales — mountains, beaches, countryside and small-town charm. 🌸 When should you visit Sydney? Spring brings flowers and pleasant walking weather, summer is perfect for beaches, autumn has beautiful colours and milder days, while winter is great for cooler city walks and seasonal events. What I love about Sydney is the mix — iconic landmarks, beaches, cafés, markets, coastal scenery and easy day trips all in one destination. ❤️ Sometimes the best way to experience a city is simply to walk, eat, drink coffee and see where the day takes you. #sydney #sydneytravel #visitsydney #australiatravel #sydneycitywalk #sydneycafe #sydneycoffee #sydneymarkets #therocks #bondibeach #sydneyoperahouse #bluemountains #jervisbay #newsouthwales #australiatrip

#easytravelpost Garden Castle is the southernmost section of the Drakensberg, with World's View (2,194 m) a rocky promontory giving a 360° panorama across the Transkei foothills to the Indian Ocean on a clear day. I entered at the Garden Castle gate (ZAR 80, cash), hiked to World's View (5 km, 450 m gain) at 06:20 in October. The cliff moss is the World's View promontory and the Protea slope: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the Protea cynaroides (king protea) shade, Fissidens on the sandstone boulders of the viewpoint, and the cliff above the rhino-rock has Racomitrium on the wind face—panorama moss is the sunniest in the Berg, silver-green, glowing at 06:40. I stood at World's View at 06:50, the moss cool, a lammergeier over the Rhino Ridge, the distant ocean haze 100 km east. The reserve has a basic hut (sleeps 12, ZAR 400/person, book ahead) and campsite (ZAR 200). Mistake: I came in December expecting the "ocean view" and the summer haze blocked everything past 20 km—April–June for the clearest Transkei panorama. Another: I wore flip-flops for the "short 5 km" and the sandstone path was razor-sharp; proper boots, the rock is unforgiving. Would you hike World's View at 06:20 for the panorama-moss dawn and the lammergeier chance, or skip Garden Castle and drive the Sani Pass instead?

#easytravelpost Royal Natal National Park is the Drakensberg's most famous section, home to the Amphitheatre, the Tugela Falls (the world's second-highest), and Mahai Falls—a 3-tier cascade on the Mahai River, 2 km from the main camp. I stayed at the Royal Natal campsite (ZAR 300/tent, own gear), walked the Mahai Falls path at 06:30 in March. The cliff moss is the Mahai cascade wall and the riverbank: Sphagnum and Hylocomium in the spray-zone where the falls hit, Fissidens on the sandstone blocks of the pool edge, and the cliff above the cascades has Metzgeria on the drip-line—cascade moss is emerald, dripping, glowing at 06:50 before the tour buses. I stood on the Mahai bridge at 07:00, the moss soaking, a giant kingfisher diving the pool, the Amphitheatre wall visible through the trees. Day entry ZAR 120, cards accepted at the gate, cash for the campsite. Mistake: I walked the Mahai path at 10:00 and the falls were backlit and crowded—06:30 start for the light and solitude. Another: I swam in the upper Mahai pool and the current from the cascade was a tow-rope; stick to the lower pool, the upper is deceptively powerful. Would you walk Mahai Falls at 06:30 for the cascade-moss dawn, or hike the full Tugela Gorge and skip the falls?

#easytravelpost Seydozero (189 m alt, 8 km long) sits inside the Lovozero ring, sacred to Sami—seids (sacred stones) on the shore, Kuyva (a 70 m reddish silhouette of a giant) painted on the cliff at the west end. I taxi'd Lovozero→Revda (₽300), Revda→Karnasurta mine (hitch, 20 min), signed the mine rescue logbook, climbed the Elmorajok path to the lake at 08:00 in July. The cliff moss is the Kuyva face: Fissidens and Cratoneuron in the seep-lines that streak the giant's "body," Sphagnum in the meadow where the Elmorajok enters, and the seid boulders have Polytrichum at their base—the moss frames the sacred geometry, Sami leave offerings (coins, ribbons) but never on the moss itself. I sat opposite Kuyva at 09:00, the moss silver, the lake flat, a raven on the seid. The Seydyavvr reserve (17,400 ha) bans logging/grazing but allows hiking and berry-picking; no entry fee, no permit beyond the mine logbook. Mistake: I tried to "touch the Kuyva rock for a photo" and a Sami herder waved me off—the cliff face is not climbed, view from 50 m. Another: I didn't bring cash for the Revda taxi back and the mine road has no signal—carry ₽1,000 small bills. Would you trek Revda→Karnasurta→Seydozero for the Kuyva-moss dawn at 09:00, or boat across Lake Lovozero and approach the seids from the east?

If you're looking for a quick escape from Sydney, Bowral is an incredibly relaxing choice. There's no need to pack your itinerary with attractions; just half a day is enough to soak in the completely different vibe of the Southern Highlands. My trip to Bowral this time revolved around two main goals: seeing the tulips and eating at Gumnut Patisserie. 🌷 Tulip Time I arrived right in time for Bowral's tulip season, and the whole town was instantly brimming with spring vibes. Huge patches of tulips in various colors bloomed across the gardens, with red, yellow, pink, and purple beautifully intertwined. Compared to the massive flower shows in Melbourne or Sydney, I actually find Bowral to be much more laid-back. The town itself isn't huge. After admiring the flowers, you can just wander around the neighborhood, checking out the streets and residential areas without the pressure of rushing to the next spot. 🌸 Spring in the Southern Highlands Located in the Southern Highlands, Bowral enjoys a much cooler climate than Sydney. So, even if you just drive down for half a day, you'll definitely notice the change of scenery and atmosphere. With its sprawling lawns, lush woods, and English-style town architecture—all perfectly paired with spring tulips—it's the ideal spot for a relaxing weekend getaway. 🥐 Gumnut Patisserie After enjoying the blooms, you absolutely cannot miss Bowral's renowned Gumnut Patisserie. It's an extremely popular bakery in the Southern Highlands, famous for its desserts, pastries, and pies. I'd say the best way to go about it is to grab a few treats after your tulip viewing, find a cozy spot to sit down, and savor them at your own pace. Once you've seen the flowers and had your dessert, your half-day itinerary is pretty much perfectly complete. 📍 Bowral | Southern Highlands, NSW 🚗 Getting there: Half-day road trip from Sydney ⭐ Personal recommendation: Flower viewing + town stroll + pastries
The theater isn't very large, so the view from the second floor was excellent, and the actors' performances were very lifelike, with very interesting dialogue. Plus, the theater has a beautiful terrace with floor-to-ceiling windows; I took some lovely photos there in the afternoon!
露小茜Very interesting place to visit and a beautiful place to go! Slightly expensive but still worthwhile.
Zephan SheepyAmazing whale-watching experience in Sydney! 🐋I really enjoyed this experience from start to finish. The scenery and the whole environment were absolutely beautiful, and we were lucky enough to see a lot of whales! It was amazing watching them in their natural environment, and the experience was even better than I expected. Definitely a great activity to do while visiting Sydney, and I would happily recommend it to others!
Olga_QuestThe standard currency in Bowral is AUD
Current exchange rate approx.: THB ≈0.04AUD (actual exchange rates depend on the bank). Currency exchange tips:
1. Exchange currency at your local bank before departure, as rates are usually better than at the destination.
2. You can also withdraw cash from local ATMs.
3. Avoid exchanging currency at airports or hotels, as they offer the worst rates.
