The Calanais standing stones are one of the most magnificent and best preserved Neolithic monuments that were erected 5000 years ago. It was 27 kilometers 26 minutes drive from Stornoway harbour or bus W2 plus 10 minutes walk. The stones are free to go in and open 24 hours. Beside the stones is the visitor centre is home to an exhibition, cafe and gift shop. The cafe is a perfect place to relax with a stunning view of Loch Roag. For the stones mystery surrounds its exact purpose, although much of the evidence indicates that these stones will be the sites of both astronomical observation and rituals activities.

Stornoway is the main town of western Isle and the capital of Lewis and Harris, Scotland. It is the largest town in the outer hebrides, as well as the third largest town after Kirkwall in Orkney and Lerwick in Shetland. The ferry to and from Ullapool takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. The town is easy to walk around, a coop and tesco supermarket just walking distance. Harbour kitchen serves good food but you need to have your reservation, their fried whitebait is nice and crispy, it is situated just opposite the town hall.
