My first trip abroad begins in this small Nanyang city, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are already so many city walk recommendations for George Town, Penang on social media, so I was too lazy to plan and just borrowed some itineraries: 📍St. George's Church (P1) 📍Penang City Hall (P3–P5) 📍Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower (P6) 📍Beach Street Fire Station (P7) 📍Kwong Wah Yit Poh (P9) 📍George Town World Heritage Incorporated (P12) 📍Penang Street Art (P15) 📍Penang Hill Funicular (P17) ... Beyond the popular spots, I stumbled upon some lesser-known places that captured a beautiful moment: 📍Penang Civil Court (P2) 📍Graffiti near the fire station (P8) 📍CHAGEE on Kimberly Street (P10) 📍Kam Fook Hin Tea House (P11) with its church-like white exterior And all kinds of roadside signs that evoke a sense of "old Nanyang dreams"... The sky in Penang that day (September 28, 2026) was incredibly clear. The blue skies captured by my camera are quite true to life, and the wide-angle shots on my phone (P17) are so blue they're mesmerizing. But the next day, when I headed to Penang Hill, it was covered by haze from slash-and-burn farming. Despite the minor flaws, the trip to Penang was a complete success. For my next stop, I took the MYR 2 ferry to Butterworth to transfer, then switched to the KTM Komuter train to Ipoh, the holy land of Malaysian Chinese literature.
Ipoh is the kind of place where heritage streets, limestone caves, nature and good food can fit nicely into a short weekend. _TI***oxThe price was a bit high, but the scenery was beautiful. Unfortunately, there was no refund or cancellation policy. Because the driver deliberately led us on a wrong route, we were delayed and couldn't reach the top for the view. The children were very disappointed, and the driver refused to compensate us. We had to buy new tickets ourselves and visit the next day.
