With the Crew in Spokane: the Centennial Trail's Monroe Bridge, the Falls View and the Taproom We Fo — traveler post in Spokane

With the Crew in Spokane: the Centennial Trail's Monroe Bridge, the Falls View and the Taproom We Fo

#travelsafetytips Spokane built a city around its waterfall and then had the good sense to put a trail next to it. The Centennial Trail runs for miles along the Spokane River, past the spectacular falls, under historic bridges and into the center of town. Our group walked across the Monroe Street Bridge—one of the longest concrete arch spans in the country—looked down at the falls, and then ended up in a taproom we found entirely by accident. Stay in a rental near the downtown core. Spokane is walkable, and you can reach the trail, the coffee shops and the restaurants without moving the car. Use rideshares at night and stay on the lit sections of the trail after dark. Safety note: the river is powerful and the rocks near the falls are slick. Stay behind the fences and railings—this is not a place for creative selfies. The Monroe Bridge is the architectural highlight. Walk across it once for the view, then cross back and look up at the details. With friends, the taproom is the social reward. Order flights, share a pretzel, and argue about which brewery was best. Spokane is easy to love: you walk, you look, you end up comparing notes and planning tomorrow before today is over.

It is flat, paved and easy for a mixed group—walk it, ride it or just stop every few minutes to look over the railings. Stay in a rental near the downtown core. Spokane in the morning light: A stroll through the Expo site and Clock Tower Park — traveler post in Spokane

Spokane in the morning light: A stroll through the Expo site and Clock Tower Park

After breakfast this morning, I walked to the city center landmark across from my hotel—Riverfront Park. This was the site of the 1974 World's Fair, and strolling through it feels like touching the traces left by time. Standing solemnly and quaintly in the center of the park is the red-roofed Great Northern Clock Tower, which looks particularly striking against the backdrop of blue skies and white clouds. Not far away, the massive, mesh-like Pavilion, a remnant of the World's Fair, is unique and breathtaking. Walking along the skywalk, you are surrounded by lush greenery and modern architecture that complement each other perfectly. Beside the park, the Spokane River rushes on, its waters churning into white waves among the rocks. Sunlight filters through the trees onto the wooden boardwalk, and the air is so fresh you can't help but take a deep breath. Start a new day of your journey with a relaxing and pleasant stroll to check off these landmarks!
