Yili has always been an important passage from Xinjiang to Central Asia. Historically, many towns have been built here to guard the border and develop trade. During the 150 years from 1762 to 1911 in the Qing Dynasty, a total of 48 people held the post of Ili General and ruled in the Ili General's Mansion. Looking back at the past, the generals of Yili who fought in the frontiers in those years were inevitably marked by the feudal ruling class, but their loyalty to the country and devotion to the frontiers will always be remembered for future generations. The Ili General's Mansion, which has been fully repaired by the State Department of Cultural Relics, still stands in a place that represents the interests and dignity of the country, protects the tranquility of the frontier, and witnesses the prosperity of the frontier. In the Qing Dynasty, in order to strengthen the governance of the Yili area, Qianlong set up General Yili here, built Huiyuan City, and successively built Huining, Suiding, Guangren, Ningyuan, Zhande, Gongchen, Xi, and Taer around it. The eight satellite cities are collectively referred to as the "Nine Cities of Ili". The well-preserved one is Huiyuan City, known as the head of the "Nine Cities of Ili".
