Photos of Kumano Kodo

The Kumano Kodo was built for nobles to visit Kumano Shrine in ancient times, and later became the way for asceticists to go to Ise Shrine. The entire ancient road is divided into 15 sections. Visitors can walk according to their physical strength and time, but no matter which section they take, the scenery is equally charming. You can also stop by to visit the local hot springs and the layers of rice fields arranged in an orderly manner. Kumano Kodo was recognized as Japan's 12th World Heritage Site in 2004.
