The first Ohio governors arrived in 1851 to greet the Indians who had lived there for 6,000 years, and named the developed area Indian Chief Seath, the source of Seattle's name. Today, the Pioneer Square, which is at the junction of First Street and Yesler Street, retains the 19th-century gold rush and booming streetscape: the iconic Victorian buildings are full of antique flavors; the mixed-material waiting booths cast for the 1909 Trolley Street car; Elegant iron cast patterning and high street lamps; none of these are standard Victorian styles.
