Die Olive is a charming restaurant north of Vienna in Gerasdorf. The garden offers lovely seating - as a matter of fact, the restaurant is far nicer in the summer time than in the winter months because of this garden. The owners have made a terrific ambience in the middle of nothing but an industrial region and should be congratulated for this effort. The food is authentic and offers a wide selection of Greek cuisine. All dishes come superbly decorated with lots of fresh herbs and well tasting vegetables. The tomato salad is a delight to the eye. One can see that the owner puts his heart into his business. BUT, when ordering the octopus salad be aware that you will receive lots of mixed greens and roughly 100 - 150g of the actual octopus. The price for this salad is Euros 14,90 which is highly overpriced. Yes, we all know that octopus is not calamari, but I still did not understand the reasoning behind what was on the plate and the price charged. We were a group of five ladies and the owner was very creative in trying to explain/convince us why there was nothing but greens and little octopus. In the end we gave up trying to understand him. As this restaurant is conveniently located for us coming from all parts of Vienna and Lower Austria I am sure we will visit again some time in the future. But we will let the great octopus continue swimming in the Aegean Sea - better for him and for us.
