Photos of Tiger-Running Spring

Tiger-Running Spring's current spring head is in a square pool well, with clear water of a quality suitable for tea-making. There is a Tiger-Running Pavilion above for tourists to rest in. In the Ming Dynasty Jiajing era, Yuan Jizu rebuilt the square pool, renamed it to Ancient Ever-Green Pool. So, the Tiger-Running Pavilion is also called the Ancient Ever-Green Pavilion. The pool-side rock walls are chiseled with the words "Tiger-Running Spring," which was written by Ming Dynasty Chongzhen era Zhenjiang magistrate Cheng Xun. The legend says that Crown Prince Zhaoming found it very difficult to find water when he first arrived at Zhaoyin Mountain. One day, as the prince walked along the slope, a tiger bolted out of the forest, whereupon the prince dodged it. The tiger landed at the feet of the prince and dug a deep hole with its claws. Then it roared and ran away. Instantly, a clear spring sprang from the hole.
