How to Get to Downtown Los Angeles from LAX International

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the biggest airport serving the Greater Los Angeles area. It is located about 18 miles (28.9 km) southwest of downtown LA to downtown LA.
There are many ways to get you from LAX to Los Angeles. Whether you're going for the main downtown attractions, or are looking to explore the Greater Los Angeles County, LAX offers an array of ground transportation options.

Taxi. There is no shortage of taxis at LAX. If you're exiting from or near Terminal 1, proceed to the LAX-it lot on foot or take the free LAX-it shuttle located outside the baggage claim by the Lower/Arrivals Level. You won't miss the green LAX-it signs! If you're exiting from Terminal 3 or Terminal B (Tom Bradley International), you'll find the taxis inside Parking Structure 3. Exiting from Terminal 7 or 8? Head over to the far end of Terminal 7 - the taxis are right outside of baggage claim.


Ride-App Services. There are three authorized ride apps servicing the LAX. All ride-app pickups are located at the LAX-it lot right next to Terminal 1.


Rental Car. There are plenty of rental car companies that service the LAX, but they are at a different location away from the terminals. If your rental car offers authorized pickup at the terminal, proceed to the Lower/Arrivals exit outside of baggage claim and look for the area marked with the purple Rental Car Shuttles sign. The shuttles will take you to the rental car lot. If your car rental company operates a Remote Rental Car Depot Service, you'll need to look for the pink LAX Shuttles located just outside the Lower/Arrivals exit and board the "Metro Connector" shuttle.


LAX FlyAway Bus. If you have time to spare, public transport is also a viable option of getting from LAX to Los Angeles. LAX FlyAway buses operate regular trips between the LAX terminal and Union Station (to Downtown LA) and Van Nuys Station (to San Fernando Valley). They are located in front of the Lower/Arrivals exits, with the easy-to-spot blue FlyAway columns. One-way tickets for each of the stations cost $9.75. Metro Rail. Taking the LA Metro is one of the cheapest options of getting from LAX in Los Angeles, with fares costing only $1.75 per way. Although the buses don't directly stop at the airport, LAX offers free shuttle transfers to the Aviation/LAX Station. You'll find the shuttles at the Lower/Arrival Level islands. Look for the pink LAX Shuttle sign and take the "Metro C Line (Green)" shuttle. The shuttle service is free for passengers who can provide proof of transit. Do note, however, that the shuttle and the LA Metro only operate from 04:00 until 1AM.
