I received a call from Staybridge Suites @ Auburn Hills, MI at 6am today and was told our reserved room we are supposed to check in today is not available due to maintenance issues. Panicking with disbelief, I searched for different hotels and called Marriott Towne Place Suites at Auburn Hills. Andy has taken care of our room needs for a 6 night stay with professionalism, courtesy and empathy. He clearly cares about the needs of hotel guests and assures me that we do not have to worry. Such a relief on the way to the airport with Andy’s superb customer service.

The hotel was very clean and staff was terrific. The room was spacious and well laid out. Very comfortable beds and the kitchens were an added plus to get coffee and breakfast on your own time. Location is very close to all shopping but far enough away to be very quiet. We will be back.

If you’re looking for a quiet or dark room, probably look elsewhere. The doors don’t seal around the frame so there is a ton of light that comes in and you can hear everything from the hall (and conversations from other rooms). I really don’t think that the wall my headboard is on should shake so much when someone else closes the door, but be ready to wake up if someone else nearby leaves their room early. The hotel is close to a busy road and they clearly built it with the wrong windows. They are too thin and able to open for some reason, so the seal is likely worn. The result is traffic noise all night. Perhaps it isn’t as bad on the other side of the hotel so try asking for an even numbered room. They also need to update their window coverings to keep the drapes closed and actually block the light. On the good side, the staff is extremely friendly and the breakfast is fine, your standard free hotel breakfast. The cleanliness is okay as I found little rubber bands on the floor (and in the bed) of my room that caused me to question how well it was vacuumed. In the end, this is a mid-level hotel that needs some upgrades to some of the key sleeping amenities.

I stayed here in September and December 2021 due to power outages at my home. These were my first two stays at this property since it had changed over from a Hawthorn Suites to MainStay Suites. The staff were very friendly and helpful--especially Serena at the front desk! She was very helpful, professional and fun to talk to. The rooms are still identical to how they looked when the property was a Hawthorn Suites, which really is not an issue because everything is still in pretty good shape and the beds are comfortable. Just a reminder for housekeeping to follow through with cleaning everything, as there were still leftover crumbs in the kitchen. Other than that, the room was clean and spacious. My room--329--was pretty quiet despite being close to the elevator. Since it is a corner room, I had no one next to me which was nice. My other room for the SEP 2021 stay was 317, and it was also very nice. Although I am a bit bummed it is no longer a Hawthorn Suites and does not offer the same amenities, it is still a reliable and comfortable place to stay in Auburn Hills, and I know I will return someday.

We booked 2 rooms from 5/14-5/18. The ads show a beautiful outdoor pool. It was not. The pool was left sadly untended and slime green. They claim the pool is closed due to COVID. Nowhere on the Choice site does it say the pool is closed. They just use the lame disclaimer that some services may be unavailable due to COVID. However, no other COVID protocols were observed by staff. No masks. Cutlery in breakfast area was crammed in holders so that people would have to touch the ”eating” ends instead of just the handles to get the plasticware. The breakfast was the same every morning. The rooms were showing their age. The tub had been repainted and the paint was peeling off. There was mildew in the tub around the spout and at the caulk joints. There were only 3 towels for a 2 queen bed room. No spare TP. Our last night there was no hot water in the evening or the next morning.

I am writing to share a positive experience I had with one of your staff members, Mark Sawdon. Upon departure from the hotel on August 4th, I mistakenly left behind a bag of clothes. When I called the hotel, I spoke with Mark and advised I may have left it in the room. Late that afternoon, Mark called me back to let me know that he checked the room but did not find it. I asked him to check the other rooms we had reserved as well, and the bag was not in either of the other rooms. Mark mentioned housekeeping sometimes takes left items and leaves them on their carts, returning them to lost and found the next day. Mark did not wait for the team to arrive in the morning, he went and checked each cart, and called me back again advising the bag was not there. There was a terrible rainstorm the night of our stay. It continued to rain hard as we were leaving the hotel the next morning. We had to move the car from where we started to load our luggage because there was a considerable amount of mud between the sidewalk and our parking spot, due to the construction. Spit balling, I called Mark back to let him know it was possible we left the bag outside on the sidewalk. He advised it had continued to rain and agreed to walk the perimeter of the property to look for it. He also said in a final effort he would check the dumpster; in the event someone had thrown it away. Mark called me back about an hour later to tell me that he found my bag on the sidewalk. It was full of water, so my clothes were soaking wet and dirty. There was a shirt in the bag that has significant sentimental value. Its almost 50 years old and is one of my favorite party shirts. I live out of state and was not planning to be back in Auburn Hills anytime soon, so I offered to give him my credit card info, hoping he could ship it to me. Mark said he would wash and dry my dirty wet clothes and then reach out to discuss shipping. He said that if he could not use the hotel facilities to wash them, he would take them home to do it. He went as far as to inquire about washing instructions, which was key because the sentimental shirt is rayon and can’t be dried. Within a few days, I received a Fedex box with all my clean and dry clothes and shoes. Most people would have given up or blown me off after checking the room. Most people would have avoided my calls. Most people would have never agreed to check outside the hotel and the dumpster. Most people would not have been timely in calling/emailing me with updates. Mark Sawdon is a special soul. I can only believe the universe wanted me to have my shirt back and connected me with Mark to make it happen. I am grateful my path has crossed with his. It is people like Mark who possess dedication to service, empathy and kindness that differentiate themselves from others in the service industry. You cannot train people to become Mark Sawdon’s. The next time I am within 100 miles of Auburn Hills, I will make a point of meeting him in person.

I am a recent amputee. Upon losing my leg, I lost my home due to insurance regulations. I checked into the ESA -- Auburn Hills. Paul and his staff havebeen wonderful to me ever since my arrival. They have taken out trash and moved things that needed to be moved. They fulfill my every request. When I first got here, there was a lot of noise and dogs. But now, the carpets hav been cleaned and are freshened daily. EVERYTHING is sanitized regularly. If I were to have a complaint, it would be that the internet is HORRIBLE!!!! That is not the fault of the staff, but of ESA Corporate. I could write a letter, put it in an envelope and mail it and have it get to the recipient faster than the internet at this hotel. This place is entirely too expensive for crappy internet. Even if you pay the additional fee $31/month, it is very VERY slow if it comes on at all. I have spoken with corporate, who says it is a third party vendor and they are working on the issue. Again, I have been here since August. How long could it possibly take to figure out why I have no internet when the room next door has FULL signal. I like this hotel and I like the people that work here. I hate the internet and I think it is a shame for THAT to be the reason I am disatisfied with my greater than four month stay here......

I would recommend this location again and again! The hotel is quiet and the rooms were clean and well furnished. Breakfast tasted good, contained healthy choices, and a variety of selections. Now to the hospitality, our stay was due to bereavement, but I tell you this, Mr. K.D. ensured we had a smile every interaction! He provided top tier customer service - even as we checked in at 2am after a long day of travel! Thank you to the entire staff!

The staff here is pleasant and helpful. This is an older place and needs some upgrades to even approach a 5 star rating. Generally clean, but there are stains on the carpet and maybe bubble gum spots on the common area hallways. The outside entries have failing card readers that often do not work and have posted signs that state ”out of order”. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now. The entry ways from outside are not cleaned frequently even though I see wet floor signs posted frequently but have not been cleaned. Garbage cans are frequently full and garbage blows out of them and sits on the ground for multiple days within 3 feet of the garbage can without being picked up. Place would be better with some more stringent supervision. I have watched staff walk past the trash laying on the ground and do nothing about it. See attached pics. Decent place to stay that is affordable but do not expect 5 star. I also have a problem with the general manager asking residents to take the esa survey and rate all 10. Encourage completing survey, but do not try to influence their response. I witnessed her telling a Mexican how to respond and his English was horrible @ best and probably did understand her.

This place was old but the rooms have been upgraded. Our room was mostly clean with just some corners missed. The updates were basic but nice. We do appreciate the hard floor in place of carpeting. The bed was very comfortable. We especially appreciated the desk, microwave and refrigerator and the many outlets around the room. There was one weird piece of that though. None of the desk power worked unless the overhead light was on. My husband does desk work before i get up and this added many hurdles for him. The staff was very friendly. We had some extra time so stopped to see if we could check in early but they apologized that they couldn't accommodate us because the rooms were not ready. I would much rather wait than have a room that cleaning was rushed to get us in. This hotel enforces a quiet time which again is wonderful for us.. We play music for a living and we fully appreciate a discounted but quiet room stay. The drive to the hotel is a little difficult to follow the first time because the road comes in the back way. It feels a little unsafe BUT we had no issues at all. We will be back.
